30 years with this machine.,
This review is from: Milwaukee 6509-21 Variable Speed Sawzall with Quik-Lok Blade Clamp (Tools & Home Improvement)
Okay, so I am on my second. But only because I sold the first along with the business it started. I first bought it with about 5 minutes deliberation as I faced cutting some difficult roots to make room for a foundation. Hadn't ever seen one before that day. Cut those roots out post haste and I've never been without it. There are times when only this saw will work. Once, I cut a house in half in half a day with one so I could save $1000 on the house mover's bill. I know that other manufacturers make good reciprocating saws, and frankly I don't know if they are better. I figure that once you get to trust a tool why change. Now the one I got now is the 'same ol' Sawzall' like the proverbial 'same ol' hatchet' -- had three new handles and two new heads, but it's the same ol' one. That's because Milwaukee designed it to be fixed. I can tear it down, replace the parts and have it running in 10 minutes. Sort of like that carbine from way past. Sentimental? Nope. There's a few things I like better -- my money and my time. I'll just stick with this one.

The standard that all others are compared to,

This saw works for me. Twelve years, so far, in the electrical contracting business. It did need some bearing work after 11 years. Its not the most powerful or the one with the longest stroke. Its not the beast that the Tiger Saw is but for the price, you can not beat it.

One of my guys has an old and I mean old version of this saw. It has no variable speed. No rubber grip. In fact the whole thing is metal, even the handle. The motor is only four amps but it still cuts like it did 40 years ago. Now you get the same exact mechanism with a more powerful motor, Variable speed, a rubber grip and quick loc blade clamp. I like the 10 amp super sawzall better ( It has a lot less vibration, a longer stroke and a lot more power and I like the orbital one even more.) But if you don't mind a cut taking a few extra minutes here and there, you can't go wrong with this saw. I beleive that it will outlast any other saw from any company including Milwaukee. It's nothing to see one that has been in daily service for 20 or 30 years. No other saw I know of has even been on the market that long. It must be a good tool or how could they give it a LIFETIME warranty. Where else are you going to get that?

You want a recipro saw that will work in restricted, confined areas. This is it. Shortest stroke in the industry, which means you don't bend blades and destroy things around it. Dunno why the tool-makers went to longer stroke saws, but glad they still make this one. They last as long as you will, hold up in use. Friend of mine has a brand new Super Sawzall....and he uses an old standard model he inherited from his father; it works better.

Great, BUT CONSIDER THE 11 Amp Model,

A fully agree with the other reviewers but I would suggest that for a few more dollars you get almost double the force. This is a tool for destruction/removal and the 11 amp makes a difference. Bought mine from Amazon and it was at my office in 3 days.

I worked as an Electrician 25 years ago and our shop used Milwaukee tools exclusively for good reason. They took the lickin and kept on ticking.I use this saw for demolition and renovation work around the house and it handles any job with no problem. I definitely reccommend it for the average Joe. If your a contractor and would be using it commercially than go for the 11 Amp model.

$256 for a 6amp?!,

$256, the price on this item as of 06-23-11, for a 6amp sawzall is a complete ripoff when you can buy this exact saw for 1/4th the price from any box store. Or you could get the 15amp super sawzall (reconditioned) for $144 on Amazon, which is three times more powerful. So I gave it one star to catch the eye of someone who might be about to overpay $200. It's nothing against Milwaukee or this tool.
That said, Milwaukee makes the best, most-powerful sawzalls that last forever. |
