Super tool to have in hand,
By Todd J. Niblo (Portsmouth, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Milwaukee 6791-21 Remodelers Kit 6.5 Amp Screwdriver with Assessory Package (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was quite surprised to see Milwaukee introduce this tool.Particularly because in their drill line up, few new items have hit the pike lately and Milwaukee really is not known for their screw guns. However, that may change with this new product. Frankly, I think that Milwaukee builds the best drill motor out there, but traditionally, I have never thought that their drills are comfortable or well balanced to use all day. This new pitol grip changes that considerably. The new grip is small enough for most hands to feel that they can control it even if your body position is not ideal. The Quick-LocK cord is really a nice feature ( if you wear out, cutor nick the cord - it can be replaced with no tools or housing disassembly ), the trigger is of good quality, the reversing switch can be toggled easily while one-handing the screw gun and has no sharp eges, and the 0-2500 rpm speed range is acceptable for many fastening applications, including self drilling/ TEK type screws into metal. This kit is a new offering so durability is not proven, but Milwaukee's reputation should alleviate most concerns. This kit is appropriately named a Remodeler's kit that will come in handy for a variety of applications on the job or around the house. It is very comfortable, well made, comes standard with a variety of bits and sockets all in Milwaukee's standard metal case. I give it five because I believe the tool will endure years of projects and I think Milwaukee broke some new ground here, look for others to follow.

Superb clutch!,

The Milwaukee's superb clutch is one reason for buying this tool! The clutch operates very crisply; there is a momentary disengagement sound followed by complete silence from the clutch mechanism. By contrast, the clutch on my friend's DeWalt makes annoying noises (and vibrations) for as long as you have the motor on. Other good points: MADE IN THE USA, detachable power cord, handling, balance and position/location of the controls. Cons: 1) the unit arrived with lubrication leaking from the area where the motor is attached to the gears. This soiled the carry case and it continued for a couple of days before it eventually stopped. (I suspect that either a) it was over-lubricated or b) a seal broke and all of the lube leaked out.) 2) The rubber used for the detachable power cord is of the type that dirt, saw dust, etc. sticks to. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this purchase and can whole-heartedly recommend this tool.

I have been doing a lot of drywalling recently while remodeling my home. For a while I tried to get by using a normal drill to do the screws (nailing drywall is a ridiculous pain). The problem was that I had a terrible time setting the screws to the right depth. I was using a couple of those special drill bits that advertise the ability to help set drywall screws. I learned my lesson. One big problem was I had to use different thicknesses of drywall with different applications. Then I bought this beauty... Let me say this: If you are drywalling or planning to drywall soon stop reading this review and buy this now! Drywall went from being a necessary pain to being actually a bit fun. First off the screw gun's ability to set screw depth acurately to within 1 /64 of an inch is awesome. A little click to the right or left with the nozzle and you're ready to rock. Next, 6.5 amps of power... wooowww! This thing has the torque and speed to easily power drywall screws through my century old wood framing. My normal drill choked often on this. Thirdly, magnetic tip. You don't realize how nice this is until you are putting up drywall panels on a 10 foot ceiling. You can one hand those screws all over the place within reach of your ladder. Just don't let it make you so lazy you start tipping over your ladder in an attempt to reach that one last place just barely out of reach... Fourthly, rugged steel case. Fifthly, the ability to drive basically any screw anywhere, wood or metal, with all the included bits and attachments. Sixthly, it's Milwaukee. That means built to take whatever you can dish out and a lifetime waranty. Don't drywall without it!

This tool packs POWER,

I'm building a new workshop in the woods and have been using this tool to shoot screws, (both hexhead woodgrips and TEK). It is light weight and fits the hand nicely. I was wondering how it would fare when we started shooting the TEK screws into the steel framing -- IT WORKS GREAT! I have had just as much luck with the phillips screw driver head for other parts of the project. There is something rewarding when you can set thousands of screws with a little click as the tool drives them exactly the same time-after-time. Don't be afraid to buy this one - I have three.

Need a screw gun?,

Look no farther, this is the gun to buy. I bought this screw gun almost a year ago when I was going to have to drive a LOT of screw. I built 4 large decks this summer and it has saved me time beyond belief. The gun has enough torque to drive 3 inch screws through 2x cedar into pressure treated wood with no problem. The auto depth stop works flawlessly, and I can drive screws 40-50% faster than with a cordless drill. I also recently used it to put down a metal roof and it works great for that too. Before buying this model I had the opportunity to use a Dewalt gun (the kind they carry at the big home stores) and it's no comparison, this one wins hands down. More comfortable to hold and use and has more power for driving the screws.

Great Screw Gun Comes with Steel Case,

This review is from: Milwaukee 6791-21 Remodelers Kit 6.5 Amp Screwdriver with Assessory Package (Tools & Home Improvement)
Other reviewers have already said how good this tool is. Easy to use, light, balanced, powerful and Milwaukee smooth. They make such good motors for screwdrivers and drills. This gun is a pleasure to use for hours on end.
On Amazon's page, they suggest you add a steel carry case. THIS KIT COMES WITH THAT STEEL CARRY CASE. NO NEED TO ORDER ANOTHER ONE. Just order this kit and you'll have it covered.

Made in China **UPDATED 2011**,

This review is from: Milwaukee 6791-21 Remodelers Kit 6.5 Amp Screwdriver with Assessory Package (Tools & Home Improvement)
I ordered this screwdriver recently thinking it was at a good price, considering it's a Milwaukee. One of the first things I noticed with the tool was that the aluminum label plate read "made in China." This made me reconsider the value of the price paid. I own a Milwaukee drill that was "made in the USA" and I assumed this tool would be as well. Maybe the quality is just as good, only time will tell. I was, and still am, a little disappointed though about the "made in China" surprise.
**2011 UPDATE** This tool is leaking grease everywhere now and the reverse switch has stopped working altogether. I began using this tool just last summer and I've only used it occasionally. Luckily it has a 5 year warranty so I can get it repaired free of charge. Milwaukee should have a little more pride in the quality of their tools. The reason I bought this over one half it's price at harbor freight was because I figured the extra cost would translate to better quality. Not so... This thing has been down-rated to 1 STAR.

How did I ever do drywall without it?,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Milwaukee 6791-21 Remodelers Kit 6.5 Amp Screwdriver with Assessory Package (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is my first drywall screwdriver, and I researched alot of them before I chose the Milwaukee. In the end, it came down to Milwaukee's name, this driver having a hard nose (as opposed to soft plastic) and the torque of an electric tool. I've used it for a couple weeks now and don't know how I managed to hang drywall without it. After taking a few drives to set the depth, I haven't broken the paper once, haven't snapped the head off one screw, and have hung full sheets of drywall by myself without using nails. Now my only concern has been missing the stud.
Now the cons: I have big hands and cannot get the trigger lock engaged with the hand holding the grip. The only way I can get the trigger lock pushed in far enough is to use a finger on my "free" hand. If you have to angle the gun to get screws in tight corners sometimes requires a hand screwdriver to finish them after the gun has driven them as far as it can. And of course since it is electric there's an extension cord that follows you around. I may consider purchasing a cordless screwdriver in the future to elminate the cords, but this tool is going to be in my arsenal for as long as I'm working.

Excellent screwgun,
This review is from: Milwaukee 6791-21 Remodelers Kit 6.5 Amp Screwdriver with Assessory Package (Tools & Home Improvement)
I owned the older version of this screwgun in 1997. I used it to frame, attach siding, install a metal roof and sheetrock a 30 x 48' shop I built. It did all this and was dropped from 16' onto concrete and continued to work perfectly. I used ceramic coating decking screws with this instead of nails to frame the walls and had all four walls assembled and erected the same day working by myself except for lifting them of course. They were so rigid from the studs being screwed together that they didn't flex without crossbracing and they were 9' walls. The depth drive and hex bits worked perfectly for setting tek screws into the sheet metal roof panels. Plenty of power for building decks, etc. and the carrying case is great.
