The best of the best in shop vacs!,

This review is from: Milwaukee 8925 15 Gallon 1-1/3 Horsepower Blower Wet/Dry Vacuum (Tools & Home Improvement)
Okay, I was online searching for a wet/dry vacuum and I was about to spend around $150 for a top of the line Shop-Vac brand or a VacMaster. However, after reading the reviews and having my own bad experience with an older lower end Shop-Vac, I decided to spend a little more money and get a better brand (if there was one). To be honest I didn't know where to start and happen to Google "best shop vac" and came across a website that was listing the top five garage dry/wet vacs and the Milwaukee was at the top of the list. I didn't even know Milwaukee made wet/dry vacs! Furthermore, I've never owned a Milwaukee product either. Well, I looked up their lineup and read the reviews for their other models (essentially the same hp motor but different tank capacities), which by the way were all five stars with rave reviews. Sure, this thing costs literally an arm and a leg and that's WITHOUT any vac tools and surprisingly NO hose coupler! Of course I am not going to give it one less star because it didn't include these important items that make the whole unit work, but at this price point some may argue it should be included. Think of it this way, most people who buy BMWs and Mercedes don't really get a fully loaded car for the price they are paying either, right? I think they separated the tools and coupler out to make the price, well, somewhat reasonable. That is if you think nearly $900 is reasonable. I certainly didn't but let me tell you why I invested (note "not wasted) this much dough and I don't regret a dime.First and foremost is that this wet/dry vac is made in the good old USA and not made in China junk. Personally I would rather support the American economy and if it is a little pricey then so be it. I am investing in my kid's future and this country. So yes, this is a vacuum you will be passing down to your grand kids for generations. Why? Because the parts for this vacuum are all available and anything that is broken (if you can even break it) can be replaced unlike other cheap vacuums that you have to replace the entire unit. Secondly, you have to see this vacuum in person. It is built like a rock and everything about it oozes quality. Wait until I review the accessory bundle ($200)! Warning - they are not cheap injection molded crap but rather solid die cast aluminum and stainless steel construction and the price obviously reflects that. I think each tool weighs almost a pound! Very rarely do they make such vacuum accessories like this. The price is steep but will you ever buy twice? NEVER. But enough about the accessories for this review and back to the vacuum itself. Okay, I really hate buying cheap tools, then throwing junk away and consequently filling up our land with junk. This thing is powerful beyond belief. 120" of vertical water lift is more than enough for household use. I own two Dysons, which in my opinion, are the best built home vacuums money can buy and this Milwaukee is at least equal or exceeding the Dysons in every way but in a garage environment. Of course, there are less expensive models in the Milwaukee shop vac with the red plastic tank but I decided if I was going to spend this much I might as well spend a little more to get the shiny stainless steel tank. It might not be the biggest but it's in between the largest and smallest capacity and that is perfect for my needs. The stainless steel tank is a sight to be behold of and even my mother-in-law was quite impressed and literally said, "Wow. That looks like a expensive industrial quality vacuum". When your mother-in-law makes such a comment like that you know you got something special. It almost looks like a cryo chamber tank! So in summary for those who are looking to buy this 8925 model, you will need the accessory bundle (49-90-1670) as well as the swivel connector (49-90-0150) to connect the hose. I know most people would be appalled that it didn't come with one but I am warning you in this review. If cyou an't sleep at night spending this much on a wet/dry vac, then don't get it and write a terrible review on it because it doesn't include this and that. You're probably better off buying a made in China ShopVac or Vacmaster brand. However, if you want something that will last years and years, works as advertised and exceeding your expectations, AND be the envy of your neighbors, family, and friends then by all means save up and get this Ferrari of shop vacuums! **UPDATE 1/4/2012 The 8925 does in fact include a hose coupler. The original image of the coupler online shows it being polished metal when in fact it is anodized black metal which is why I didn't recognize it. Furthermore, the coupler is attached to the output hole where the motor is which is another reason why I didn't see it. Nevertheless, I bought another coupler ($22) as a spare. Also, I would advise new owners to research the type of vacuum accessory of choice on Milwaukee's website before buying. Although the kit I bought is very nice, it is a tad expensive and I don't think I'll be using all the pieces. Furthermore, the kit only includes a 10 foot hose and for my needs, I think a longer hose (25 feet) is more pertinent for my uses (attic vacuuming and crawlspace clean ups). Nevertheless, it's still a great vacuum cleaner and has a plethora of accessories. I am going to get the mother of all hoses which is the Milwaukee 25 feet neoprene hose (49-90-0050). It's oil resistant and wire supported but is 3 times the price of the standard hose. Again, if you have the best wet/dry vacuum, then might as well get the best hose to go along with it!
