This is a great tool. It doesn't have the temp gauge like the fancier version, but you can sneak up on the right temp by observation pretty well. It gets HOT! I do wish it had a little protruding stand on one side as part of the case or something, so you could lay it on it's side. You can stand it on the fan end with the wire bracket at the end of the handle, but it tends to fall over with the smallest bump. I will probably rig something up so I can lay it on the side. I like the attachments and the case and the tool is rock solid with a heavy cord. You get what you pay for on this kind of tool.

This heat gun kit far exceeded my expectations. It was offered at a reasonable price and is a professional grade product. As with all Milwaukee products that I have owned, it is high quality. A step ahead of the home owner grade tools that are generally offered. Nicely packaged with accessories and a storage case. I expect to be able to use and enjoy this tool for many years.

I have owned this kit for 3 years and still love it.
This is an excellent heat gun that heats up to specified temperature very quickly. The case is a must for all my tools and it has a cavity that easily stores the AC cord. I am very pleased with this heat gun as I am with all my Milwaukee tools.
Please note, the optional accessory (not included in this kit) Milwaukee 3/8-Inch Reflector Nozzle #49-80-0307 does not fit this heat gun.

A nice kit with attachments in a fitted case. Top quality. Variable temp is a plus over other heat guns.

I have used this product several times since the original purchase. The results had been very good. I like the case and all the attachments provided. The attachments all have a specific place in the case. The gun heats up very fast. I would like to have seen a 2 speed motor provided with this gun. I previously had a T&B model WT1400 which has a 2 speed motor. I like the 2 speeds but I purchased the Milwaukee for about 50.00 less. Give it a try, I think you will like it!

This definitely exceeded my expectations. I was hesitant to buy a cheap heat gun that would provide either inadequate heat, or have cheap construction that would break. This gun came with a couple of useful nozles for airflow direction, and it has adjustable heat, so it's perfect for all sorts of projects. Can really get that old paint off furniture, and woodwork, which is why I got it in the first place. Can always trust a Milwuakee product.

I use a heat gun for various activities from heat shrink tubing installation and paint removal to fly tying (heating up materials to bring out their iridescent qualities). This heat gun does it all and with superb heat control and great accessories for detailed work, this is the only gun I can use for all activities and know the tool will be able to complete the task. I have owned less expensive models but none came close to the quality and heat control of the Milwaukee 8985. I wouldn't hesitate purchasing one again.

I'm a DIYer and therefore can't speak to the longevity of using this heat gun in day to day work. For the projects that I have needed it for around the house I have found it invaluable. The range of temperature control is excellent and the accesories are very handy. I get the most use from the spreader tip. I always follow the advice listed by some other reviewers and allow the heat gun to run on the cool air setting until it is cool to the touch.

When it comes to high quality Heat Guns, this kit is one of the few out there, yet one of the best. I have used it for several projects from small to big jobs and this heat gun has been able to handle them all without any trouble, the temperature control is a plus specially when you need to do very delicate work.

I will buy me another one in the blink of an eye. If you are looking for a good quality multi-purpose heat gun this is the way to go.

I have no negative comments on this product, it has past several tests with honors!!! A+++

It says "Rotate Rear Housing To Select Temperature" but it's not true!That is why I had bought it, to be able to "select the temperature" with no guess work.

It has a rotary wheel and no temperature numbers/settings are printed on it, again leaving you to imagine the temperature reached once you rotate this back wheel.

I had to return it and am very disappointed with the company that manufactures it, they should tell you that this is the case.

Prior to this heat gun I purchased a different brand which was cheaper and it had this problem above, I decided to purchase this one which gave you the option to "select"; "Variable temperature from 140- to 1040-degrees Fahrenheit" but you have to guess the temperature, ridiculous and erroneous description! Don't buy it if you need to know the temperature in increments of at least 50º F because you won't be able to estimate it. If all you need is scrape the paint off a wall, there are a few other heat guns for a better price.
