Bernice Rubens was born in Wales and later read English at the University of Wales. Two of her books have been made into feature films, I SENT A LETTER TO MY LOVE and MADAME SOUSATZKA, and MR WAKEFIELD'S CRUSADE was made into a TV series.

Begins and ends in a hospice,

This is a well- constructed clearly written novel.
The story of a young woman who was made pregnant against her will and who lives to see her own daughter also with a child from an unknown father - the story of her abandonment by her husband after many years of happy marriage- the life in the hospice itself - provides a certain degree of insight into human life and character.
