And now this stupid piece of trash is completely dead (2012-March-20).
THE REVIEW BELOW WAS WRITTEN A FEW DAYS AGO
I still in the process of finding out if this instrument is a good value-for-money item. Here is what I have observed by now:
It worked properly for a couple of days, but then out of the blue it just started generating random figures (e.g. it would read "13.6" for pH with the electrode immersed into the 4.00 buffer). Something happened with the calibration buttons as well - instead of showing increased value when turned clock-wise and vice versa, they were doing it the other way around.
Before contacting the Seller, I first pulled the battery out, disconnected the sensor and reconnected it sometime later and put the battery back in. Surprisingly, the unit started working well again!
If this unit needs being rebooted this way every couple of days, I can probably manage it. Now, about the features:
(1) Calibration is a lot easier than on many other portable sensors I have used - the adjustment thumb-wheels are large and are conveniently located on the face panel. This compares very well to many other portable sensors whose calibration screws are just either too small, and/or too inconvenient.
(2) The accuracy is good enough for quick field tests, in both conductivity and pH ranges
(3) The unit looks cheaply made, but I suppose it's not for showing-off anyway
(5) The temperature compensation is fairly accurate for a field instrument.
All in all, check this review by the end of the 2012 ... if it's still working, I will be awarding it 5 stars.
