Folk From a Galactic Scale, March 11, 2010
I've been fascinated by Nate Lacy and Mimicking Birds ever since seeing them open for Modest Mouse in early 2009, and ever since then have been eagerly awaiting this release. To paraphrase Isaac Brock, this music does something for me that other music today just isn't doing. The ethereal guitar playing, the universal scale of Nate's lyrics; his voice is unique and comforting, and the individual atmospheres of each song he paints with his mix of electric and acoustic guitar truly take you on a musical journey and really give you an idea of the kind of potential and creativity Nate has to share with the world. Even before being signed, Nate Lacy was looking to be a prolific artist in his own right. His 23 song home demo stood on its own, akin to Foo Fighters' first album, which was largely the work of one person. However, this studio release adds the productive experience of Isaac Brock and percussive works of Mimicking Birds' Drummer, Aaron Hanson. Atmospheric, ethereal, and introspective are some appropriate words to describe the entire album. Again, to paraphrase Isaac Brock, releasing an album may not be a very good way of making a fortune these days, but I think this may be a unique case. I believe if all Mimicking Birds fans come together and support the creative works of the band, by purchasing this album (come on everybody, it's relatively inexpensive,) I think we'll see a whole lot more of the genius that is this album, and hopefully offer enough incentive to give Nate Lacy and Mimicking Birds the chance to mature into a world-class act. The last time I bought an entire album was at a small chain of music shops that has since gone out of business. If that isn't a testament to the quality of this music, I don't know what else to say. So, 5-stars from a fan of originality and quality music. -VastLite

Lovely, Folky, Atmospheric, September 24, 2010
I'm smitten with this album. The lead singer has one of those just-right soulful, sorrowful voices. Intelligent lyrics. Nice instrumentation. It's a little Richard Buckner in sound--sedate and rolling--but tighter, more polished. "Remnants and Pictures" manages to be both sing-along and meditative. "Them" has a wonderful creeping-in-the-night kind of rhythm going on. And "Burning Stars" is probably my favorite. Great music start to finish.

Soothing, Somber and Sweet, November 22, 2010
I've loved this album from the first day I owned it and even before hand from the demo tracks I had the opportunity to listen to. Nate has such an incredibly soothing, melodic voice. This is one of those albums you can put on in the car while taking a trip, in the kitchen while cooking dinner, or as a nice backdrop while having a party. It's not a pushy sound. It blends perfectly with whatever you may be doing with your time. The sound is both haunting and hopeful, joyous and desperate, ethereal and genuine. I highly recommend this album as each and every song on it is heartfelt and unique.
