MIMI,
By Imani! (Iowa, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mimi's Tutu (Paperback)
What a neat story. I love the way it affirms the African American heritage as Mimi goes to dance class with her mom. I also like the individuality expressed by Sophie with her ballet tutu and different colored socks. The two girls admire each other's skirts in the end and show one is not better than the other. The art work is very nice too!

This is such a great book. My daughter sometimes wants to skip the beginning where they explain where her name came from, but loves the rest about the African dancing, music (i.e. djembe drum and other African instruments), and the lesson in individuality. It's great for our family and for sharing black culture with our kids.
