1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT buy this book! Jameson is NOT qualified to deal w/ this topic, February 23, 2011
This review is from: Mind-Body Health and Stress Tolerance (Paperback)
Do not waste your money buying this book. The title may sound rather serious but the contents of the book range from worthless to downright dangerous.

Jameson is an engineer - not a researcher or a physician. If you want a book on car repair, you buy one from a well known and respected mechanic or auto authority. The same holds true, actually far truer, for anything related to the body and brain. Read the books written by the real researchers with real degrees and vast experiences in dealing with the brain and body and stay away from someone who knows nothing about the mind-body-stress connection - nothing at all.

Was this a self-published book because I can NOT believe any established publishing house would bother with this type of rubbish - and rather dangerous rubbish at that.

Look elsewhere for far better insights into the mind-body connection and the effects of stress. Hit the Neurology, Immune System, Endocrine sections for real research and analysis.

1.0 out of 5 stars What is this guy on?, February 23, 2011
This review is from: Mind-Body Health and Stress Tolerance (Paperback)
I don't think I've ever read a "medical" book this bad before. Reading this guy's credentials makes me realise why it seems so poorly researched. I wouldn't bother if I were you.

1.0 out of 5 stars dont bother, February 23, 2011
This review is from: Mind-Body Health and Stress Tolerance (Paperback)
I haven't read such a load of trash for ages. It is not based as far as I can see on any scientific basis just his opinion. It appears to be just a desire to make money. Please don't bother.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, February 25, 2011
This review is from: Mind-Body Health and Stress Tolerance (Paperback)
This book merely reiterates old beliefs about
bio-psychological mechanisms connecting them
to fatigue and pain.
More peer review would be welcome.
New bio-medical findings about the causes of
ME/CFS have been entirely left out.

The book may be beneficial as a motivational
tool for people returning to work after
long periods of unemployment or people
wanting to start a fitness program or
loose weight.

2.0 out of 5 stars Skewed, November 28, 2011

This review is from: Mind-Body Health and Stress Tolerance (Paperback)
This book relies partly on bona fide science, but also on pseudoscience (from the likes of the entirely discredited Wessely school) and outdated science. The HPA axis is an important aspect of ME ("CFS"), however, Mr. Jameson claims that the physiological inability to deal with stress is the cause of ME. Certainly, the endocrine system is deranged in pwME contributing to symptoms as Mr. Jameson describes. I do believe that a reduced physical ability to respond to 'stress', defined very broadly to include any insult to the body including infections and injury, can be *a* cause of ME, but it is very clearly not a sufficient cause, or everyone in a warzone would develop ME. The evidence clearly points to a pathogen or pathogens as the proximate cause.

I appreciate Mr. Jameson's attempt to help fellow sufferers of ME, however I definitely would not recommend this book. I encourage Mr. Jameson to do a thorough review of the bona fide science on ME an try again. : ) I recommend the book by Alison Bested, MDHope and Help for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia (Second Edition) (Hope & Help for) on ME and of course Osler's Web: Inside the Labyrinth of the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Epidemic. Good luck with healing everyone!
