A Mixed Bag,
This review is from: Mind/Body Makeover Oracle Cards (Cards)
"The fact is, most makeovers don't last because changes from the `outside in' rarely last. True change is an `inside' job. If we don't learn how to mold our mind and body into healthier ways of feeling and thinking, then our outer experiences will get stuck in a rut." -Mona Lisa Schulz
Neuropsychiatrist Mona Lisa Schulz, M.D., Ph.D. has created the Mind/Body Makeover Oracle Cards to help you rewire the emotional patterns that increase your chances of succumbing to physical illness, depression, and anxiety. This 70-card deck features oval cards which contains three different sections: 1.The emotion or feeling that needs healing 2.The Healthy Thought pattern (regular text, upright position) 3.The Unhealthy Thought pattern that can precipitate depression, anxiety, anger, and painful life events (reversed text in italics) The Mind/Body Makeover deck is constructed to be an oracle, and includes ten different suits. The five Feeling Suits are made up of Sadness, Anger, Fear, Love and Joy and the five Action/Health Reaction Suits are made up of Self-Esteem, Goals, Relationships, Society, and Healthy Body. There are seven numbered cards in each suit that represent arenas in which we can experience a feeling, a mood, and its consequence: *Families and Organizations *Relationships, money, and creativity *Responsibility, work, and competition *Partnership and nurturance *Communication, will, and timing *Perception, morality, life purpose, and spirituality The 99 page companion booklet advises shuffling the deck, allowing for reversals, and then quickly pulling out a card and laying it face-up on the table. If the reversed statement is on top, it indicates that an unhealthy pattern is predominant. Reverse the deck so the healthy statement is visible, and then repeat it to yourself as an affirmation. Schulz encourages you to write the healthy statement ten times a day, while repeating it aloud. For example, the upright healthy pattern on Healing Anger 6 says: "I love myself unconditionally; I accept both my strengths and my flaws. Even though I love myself just as I am, I accept the parts of myself that need to change and grow." The reverse says: "I frequently find fault in myself. I'm not trying hard enough." The companion booklet elaborates on each card, containing practical information and advice based on brain chemistry, psychology, and metaphysical principles. Another example is Healthy Relationships 2: "True love and partnership always encourage unlimited expression of creative and spiritual growth." The reverse, reflecting the unhealthy patterns, says: "If I try my best and succeed, I may lose the love of people close to me." The oval cards of the Mind/Body Makeover Oracle are made of sturdy, thick card stock with a glossy veneer. The side with the statements is rather bland, with subdued colors like russet, cornflower blue, pale yellow, sage green, salmon, and camel; a decorative border surrounds the reversible statements. The image on the back is not reversible, and shows a picture of the Mona Lisa with an anatomically correct brain in her lap. Because of the card thickness and shape, this deck is very hard to shuffle. I have a version of the deck that doesn't include the word "oracle" in the title, even though the companion book indicates that it is meant to be used as such. In my opinion, it was a mistake to try to make the Mind/Body Makeover Cards an oracle deck. Dividing it up into 10 "suits" and 7 numbers makes the deck confusing and unwieldy-especially if you're used to thinking along the lines of Tarot suits. The information and wisdom included in the cards and companion booklet is very solid, practical, and helpful-great for a meditation deck. In fact, just about anyone could benefit from using this deck for meditation and self-inquiry. But by making this deck an oracle, the messages get lost in the distracting presentation of reversals and suit titles. While the image of the Mona Lisa is fitting considering the author's name, it is an overused one. The brain in her lap certainly isn't attractive, and feels gimmicky. I was also put-off by oft-mentioned term "medical intuitive". Ever since Caroline Myss brought the word into healing circles, psychiatrist like Judith Orloff, Mona Lisa Schulz and others are jumping on the "me too!" bandwagon. They are not just intuitives; they are "smart psychics" because of their education (so Schulz says in the back of the booklet)-and feel a need to separate their "medical intuitive" practice from their "normal" psychiatry practice. The Mind/Body Makeover Oracle Cards contains vital medical, biological, psychological, and intuitive information for breaking unhealthy patterns like sadness, fear, and anger by replacing them with empowering beliefs. Yet, I feel the presentation obscures the wonderful wisdom contained in this deck and companion booklet. If you're looking for an attractive, easy-to-use oracle deck, you may be disappointed. However, if you're looking to examine the beliefs and attitudes that keep you disempowered and defeated, the wisdom of psychiatrist Mona Lisa Schulz may hold an important key to your personal freedom. I find this deck really useful when I am "feeling" something but I don't know what it is or what to do with the feeling to remain constructive. Each card illuminates a state of being and a state of being whole. Using this deck you can juxtapose a positive response/experience onto a difficult one and make better choices about how to use your energy.
I really like this for teens as well!

These cards are great. Every time we have a negative thought, a chemical is released from out brain into our body, which can lead to illness. We need to have more positive thoughts to counteract the negative thoughts and chemicals. These cards can help you recite positive thoughts, which can help improve your overall health.

I ordered this along with other Mona Lisa Schulz products through Amazon. I was enthusiastic about the prospect, mostly because of Christianne Northrup's friendship and endorsement of Mona Lisa. Regrettably, I ordered the products before having a personal phone consult with Mona Lisa. If the phone consult had happened first, I would not have ordered anything. I very much regret the product orders and the consult. I am a very chronically patient and have been very sick and bedridden for a number of years. My experience was that Mona Lisa was one of the most incompassionate practitioners I personally have encountered. I was prepared for directness. However, I was not prepared for extreme callous rudeness in the process. I am still stunned and devastated ....and out $450 for the consult. When you first call to try to find out how much is the consult price they won't tell you. That sould be the first clue. You must leave your phone number where she insists on calling you back personally where she rapidfires a prepared sales list of "all of the comprehensive services" you will receive. It felt a bit "car salesman" strategy which should have been my next intuitive sign that something didn't feel right about the process. My intuition was telling me NO...but I am so sick I proceeded against my own instincts. Something I now regret. Prior to the cost inquiry for the consult I had already ordered some of her products... including her oracle cards, Awakening Intuition book, and the multi-cassette series Body Talk with Christianne Northrup MD. The phone consult process was so disappointing that I can not in good faith recommend any of. Perhaps, with the exception of The Body Talk cassettes which includes Christianne Northrup MD (thank goodness as she gives heart and balance to the product). The other Schulz products; e.g., oracle cards and the book have sat unused because of the negative emotional experience with the phone consult. I am disgusted with it so will donate them to Goodwill unused. Other reviewer ratings for the Awakening Intuition book criticized that she talks too much about glorifying herself and her skills rather than hoped for educating/awakening intuition in the reader. As I said I could not bring myself to read the book, but can say that my personal phone consult was consistent with those comments. She definitely likes to talk about herself....a lot....which runs the clock out on your $450 hr. Then at the end of the consult, in what seemed like her own mid-sentence, she abruptly changes course and says "thank you for calling...goodbye" and hangs up abruptly without waiting for a reply making the client feel hung up on. It was very strange. I have dealt with other far more professional medical intuitives so maybe I had other expectations based on more positive experiences. Maybe she was just having a really bad day on the day of my consult, but at $450 for one hour, I was sadly disappointed that the client (me) didn't receive a more compassionately honorable service. I am on disability and unable to work (which she knew) .....so $450 was a huge amount of money for me, but I was putting that much faith and trust in her. Faith & Trust that I now know was misplaced. But, my instincts warned me, which I ignored. Just verifies....listen to your inner instinct when it talks to you. My main concern and reason for posting this is my concern for anyone else like me who is seriously chronically ill and may be contemplating a personal phone consult. Each has to decide for themselves on these things. The consequences are ours to live with. For me, I experienced a lot of unnecessary emotional pain from the process of a phone consult with her. I pray that others are different. And, I pray she reads this and is helped to understand how damaging her process can be to someone chronically ill.

She's a smart psychic and these cards reflect her left and right brain wisdom. The cards don't just give advice - they offer practical, easy, and tangible ways to apply the wisdom. Results come from action not just knowing. A wonderful inner and outer healing deck from a board-certified psychiatrist and medical intuitive. What can I say about these cards... I have had and have many decks, all kinds of em and these bring the whole issue of mind, body and spirit back to earth. Yes. I like checkin in with sprit guides, angels and animal spirits even, but how good are they when you don't have your own equipment in order?
Dr. Mona Lisa Shultz is a brassy, hyper-active lady whose got the credentials; neuro scientist, M.D. and Psychiatrist all in one. I would ask anyone who is comtemplating buying cards to begin re-mapping your thinking patterns to consider these cards. Why? Because the author herself, through sheer forces of soul and guidance found herself there. If you know Mona Lisa's story she had her spine fused with metal rods at a young age and has ADD. She isn't a psychic medium but she is an incredible intuitve! Her approach is that there are many reasons why we got sick, yet, she believes there is always an emotional component to our sickness. What these cards invite you to do is to flex your internal muscles and begin the process of re-wiring your mental and emotinal patterns with life. All the stuff therapy is supposed to accomplish. In fact, if you are in therapy these are a perfect companion! Still wondering if these cards are for you? Check out Dr. Mona Lisa Schultz on hayhouseradio.com. Listen to her for yourself and you decide. I can't give a better review than this for anyone. She's the real deal. The cards are great, effective and invite you to reflect on the underlying issues that exist deep inside you. Harvesting the intellect can take you so far. Working with these cards you can DISCOVER things your intellect missed and begin to live anew. I'm not sure if Mona reads these reviews but if she does I'd tell her this. Mona! Thanks for having the guts to get over your prejudice about 'intuition' and giving us this wonderful deck. Thanks for showing up on the Dini Petty show (u remember that one??!) some years ago. One more note Mona, put your 'Awakening Intuition' on audio format. I imagine that thought intimidates you. Well Mona pick a card and get recording. I'll be right there to buy the first CD! If I have to criticize one thing.. it's hard to shuffle cards that are oval shaped. Strictly an engineering fault. No worries. The contents and their benefits far outweigh anything I could pick at. This review is from P. P is for Phillip. Start flexing and enjoy!

I've read 2 of Mona Lisa's books, and think very highly of her. Mona Lisa Schultz is a board certified psychiatrist and medical intuitive. Having those credentials was a big selling factor for me, at a time when I was just beginning to understand how powerful our emotions are on our physical bodies. After reading her books I see the wisdom in what she says.
When I was reading her books, I realized each physical issue I suffer from has it roots in some form of emotional or psychological issue - generally from something that happened earlier in my life. I have a lot of physical issues - I could certainly make good use of her abilities to assess the underlying causes for physical problems, and her ability to recommend the emotional issues that need to be dealt with in order to alleviate the medical problems. The oracle cards are a tool to help rewire the patterns we get stuck in, the patterns that increase chances getting sick, or having a weaken immune system. The deck and instruction booklet help you tap in to your intuitive abilities by being aware of your emotions, thoughts, and physical symptoms. They make us more cognizant of the negativity in our lives which might be holding us back and making it more likely we'll suffer depression, anxiety, or physical problems. I couldn't wait for this deck to come out; I'm glad I have it. If I can't have a reading by Dr Schultz, then her books and cards will do quite nicely, and help me have a better understanding of my physical and emotional energy.

Dr. Mona Lisa's insights into the well-being of the body and mind is simply brilliant. The cards themselves are so beautifully done and oval shaped as opposed to the typical rectangle shaped cards. The deck has 5 different "feelings suits" and 5 different "action suits." The guidebook is written clearly and "will help correct the thoughts that lower self esteem and ruin physical health." If you take the deck seriously you can achieve some really good inner work. They have, for me, pointed to my own thought patterns and attitudes that needed adjusting, and the cards themselves have the appropriate affirmation/new thought to fashion. I have a lot of respect for this woman being a medical-intuitive and neuropsychiatrist for many years, and if you've ever had the pleasure to listen or talk to her, you can see how truly gifted she is. I find the cards and guidebook to be spot on with each card I pull. I would also highly recommend her book "The Intuitive Advisor" I just "got to get you into my life" :)

I really liked these cards.
The egg type shape is new and can make routines for oracle shufflers a little challenging but the overall look and beauty far outweighs this aspect. The simple words and body mind insights make these cards a valuable tool for healers with clients and those working with themselves to drill into spiritual and body mind lessons.
