A light at the end of the tunnel...,

At last, I see the light...This book is well organized, full of great recommendations, and as thorough as any book I've ever read on the subject. Thankfully, though, it's not in the least bit intimidating or hard to follow. I was impressed with how clearly and simply Mr. Gerrish communicated so much important information. I found the self-test to determine one's "unidentified fitness obstacles" particularly helpful, and to my surprise, incredibly accurate. I've never seen anything like this before. I've been using it on my friends too and it's dead-on! From beginning to end, this book offered many surprising (and encouraging) revelations. Finally someone realizes that there's more to it than just "deciding" that it's time to get in shape. I was impressed with the clarity of the exercise descriptions, the layout of the exercise program, and the logic behind the approach. What also impressed me was that instead of offering a "one-size-fits-all," rigidly structured diet, this book provides three different options (the one you follow depends on your test results). The makeover stories were heartwarming, inspiring, and amazingly honest. It's nice to see stories that you can tell are actually real! I could identify with so much of what each subject had to say. For anyone who has been overweight and out of shape for many years, here's a light at the end of the tunnel, thanks to this book.

I was amazed by the depth and breadth of information in this book. The test to determine your "UFOs" (Unidentified Fitness Obstacles) is phenomenal. It makes such perfect sense! Imagine that you suffer from low testosterone, a cortisol imbalance, SAD (seasonal affective disorder), hypochlorhydria (inadequate stomach acid), or an amino acid deficiency. Now consider the symptoms: a slow metabolism, poor absorption of nutrients, low energy level, carbohydrate cravings, depression...when do you ever hear anyone talking about these kinds of things? How can you expect to lose weight under these conditions?There is SO much great advice in this book that I've never heard before: Acupressure and breathing techniques to halt cravings, self-sabotage, and procrastination...lists of great resources for addressing individual fitness obstacles...a nutritional plan for candida...the list goes on and on. And the makeovers were wonderful! Great stories! Poignant, genuine, and clearly indicative of how well the program in this book really works! Outstanding book.

This book will blow you away. If you have yet to find the guidance you need to get fit, look no further. This book is reader-friendly and packed with clear, useful information. It is not some text-heavy dictating-type advice. There are diagrams, quizzes, checklists. All the interactive things that really makes a program work. This is the type of book that will take the fitness industry by storm! I am so sick of being told what I already know - Exercise and eat right. Yeah, brilliant. But, Michael Gerrish goes the extra step that most of us need. He takes the courageous steps to explore some of the demons behind why we can't seem to just exercise and eat right. Michael is gifted, and clearly exceptionally knowledgeable about this topic. Finally, we have someone who helps us work through issues no one ever dared to touch. As someone who has struggled with my weight for most of my life, Michael's book is my first ray of hope in a very long time. So, thanks, Michael, for your knowledge and your talent. You are a shining star.

As a daily athlete for over thirty years who took to the roads to run long before women's running shoes, I have seen and read it all regarding books and theories on how to get fit. Michael Gerrish is a pioneer in creating a system that guides individuals in identifying and overcoming their individual blocks to success. Gerrish provides an exceptional resource to the health field, an area usually veiled in ignorance. I personally found Gerrish's Unidentified Fitness Obstacles Test to be precise and thorough. It was clearly evident to me the knowledge base and expertise from which Gerrish designed and developed this program. Gerrish provides the reader with specific recommendations and resources for each of the 58 fitness obstacles that he identifies for the reader. In addition, he provides well diagramed easy to follow exercises; accurate nutrition and supplement information and an added item which I have found absolutely necessary in dealiing with obstacles in fitness and life-Acutherapy (the science of letting go of your energy blocks that contribute to fear)! If you are someone who wants the knowledge and the tools to discover what it is that you need to create the lifestyle that you want and have the physcial as well as the mental foundation to go foward, I would recommend that you get a copy of this book. If you need to get inspired just read some of Gerrish's journal pages that he includes in the book from the participants that have been part of his research. What you will find is that Gerrish shows people from real life situations that got results. Thank you.

A "Must Have" book for the new year!,

I purchased this book for myself and a few family members - we all have different body types and lifestyles and yet found this book to address all of us as individuals. This is not a "one size fits all" self-help book! The author not only combines the best information available concerning health, diet and exercise - he makes it fun and accessible - as I read it I could relate to so much of what was said and suggested. Also, the before and after make-over stories were so real - these people came to the project with a hugh spectrum of challenges and needs and everyone showed progress - real life progress, not some photo enhanced unbelievable progress that other fitness books show. This book is a keeper for life!

Michael Gerrish has created a revolutionary system for identifying and overcoming our own individual blocks to success. His UFO (Unidentified Fitness Obstacles) Test is thorough, exact and right on. My results painted a very clear picture of what's standing in the way of my health, fitness and outlook on life. Gerrish supports the reader with specific recommendations and resources for each UFO; easy to follow exercises (with great diagrams!); nutrition and supplement information and he even has a whole section that addresses fear and energy blocks! Wish I had this book 10 years ago when I went from doctor to doctor and they couldn't figure out what my symptoms meant. (The doctor who finally diagnosed me used a longer version of a test similar to the one in the book since medical tests didn't show anything)!After reading the book my husband got tested for sleep apnia. Tests revealed he had it and it was treatable. He'd been to several doctors and though he mentioned problems none suggested being tested. Another example of the need for us to be aware of what's going on in our own bodies. Thanks Michael for a very valuable and needed tool!

This is the most thorough book on the subject of diet and exercise I have ever read. Not only was the UFO test eye-opening for me, it helped me quiet those inner, critical voices that have always defeated my plans to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Even if you've never gone to the gym, this book gently guides you through each exercise, so that you are never intimidated. This is not a book that you will want to skip around in. Every section is great!
