5.0 out of 5 stars An album for the original lovers December 12, 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is definitely an album for the lovers. The lover of raw Marley power that is. So, you have bought the original "Mind Control" album and feel in love with the lyrical prowess and production ability of Stephen Marley. You always wondered who was the power behind the second wave of Marley and here he is with his first album. And the album was excellent.

Now comes the Acoustic slant to the album in which he himself claims captures the original vibe he wanted. And capture it did!!! The entire album (including bonus track) is passionate, powerful and raw. It reminds me of some of the concerts he does. The album specifically highlights the vocal range of Stephen as well as his lyrical power.

I don't like to compare the children as each has ther own strengths and pulling power....plus there is no vacancy to fill as Bob is alive and well through his music. However, if you are looking to re-kindle that Marley passion that you feel during his live performances, look no further than this album.

My personal favourites - Lonely Avenue, The Mission, Traffic Jam, the bonus track Someone to Love...........who am I kidding? I love them all!!! LoL!

5.0 out of 5 stars Raw and Real September 19, 2013

This acoustic version of Stephen Marleys 2007 solo debut album Mind Control is by far the superior version of the cd. I wasn't sure if I should buy this cd because I have the original version but I'm so glad I took the gamble. Acoustic is a much different sounding cd it's so original and new so creative it's just brilliant. The closing song Someone To Love is a reworking of a song called Send Me That Love recorded by his father Bob Marley. I love the stripped back natural feel to this album, there really isn't anything else out there like this. This is true talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soulful Rasta July 28, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I've been listening to this album since the day I received it (about 5 days straight now). If you like Stephen's original version of Mind Control you will really dig this album. This is also a good introduction to Stephen's special quality and infusion of eclectic reggae. For those of you who do not consider themselves "Reggae Enthusiasts" this album I believe will resonate with you in spite of that.

If you enjoy soulful music with pure reality this is the album. A great cool and calm vibe runs through it from beginning to end. I think one of the biggest surprises on the album has to be the bonus track "Someone to Love" which is just solid and very unique.

I'm an avid Reggae listener and this has definitely got to be one of the best albums in the genre I have heard in many years. Beautiful Rasta...

4.0 out of 5 stars Stripped-down improvement on "Mind Control" December 7, 2009
Format:Audio CD
While the original, full-sound "Mind Control" is arguably Stephen Marley's better solo album of the two he's made, this acoustic version of "Mind Control" largely strips away all the studio production and fancy beats and sounds, putting the focus on Marley's voice and lyrics.

It showcases Marley as the true heir to Bob Marley's legacy. While Ziggy may write better lyrics/songs, and Kymani is the best vocalist among the Marley kids, Stephen really captures Bob Marley's vocalizing style and edge.

While this CD may seem, on the surface, to be more of a companion album, it's just as thorough and rewarding.

For those with an acoustic bent, this is more important of a purchase. But it might also be worth checking out the original just to see how these songs work in both contexts. It might also be pleasantly surprising how the raucous "Chase Dem" works in an acoustic setting. It loses little, if any, of the power and edge of the original.

This music is more than anyone can reasonably expect from great music. My husband has been trying for some time to silence the genius Kate Bush during our evening drawing sessions and was unable to find anything even remotely as good until this- this is one of the most amazing albums ever. My husband heard this gem playing in a music store on one of his many attempts to find something suitable for our evening art sessions. This album transcends genre and is somehow different everytime we listen- this music is a living thing and if you are looking for music to uplift, entertain, support and inspire you in your creative endeavors you have found it.

Absolutely fell in love with the entire CD. Don't get me started on the bonus track! I think I've found my favorite song. It is so beautiful and I regret not discovering this years ago. This is the 'feel good' music that I've been looking for. If you like this, then check out Rebelution, too.
