Monkeys and Typewriters,
By Addie (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mind Crash: (A poke in the third eye with a sharp stick) (Paperback)
Someone once said something along the lines of "given enough time and a typewriter, an infinite number of monkeys will produce the complete works of Shakespeare". Well if you reduced the number of monkeys to a manageable level (think of the noise, for chrisakes!), threw in some LSD and a ouija board, I'm sure the results would be similar to Mind Crash!
When I first read this, I wasn't sure if perhaps the book had the wrong jacket on it, as it didn't initially seem to resemble the description. But when I read it again. And again, it all kind of fell into place. Although it initially felt sinister and edgy, upon re-reading, it did somehow feel quite enlightening and uplifting. The nearest comparison I can make is: If you took the Philosophical works of Alan Watts, and then applied the Burroughs/Gysin cut-up technique, the results would be similar. Well worth a read - it might even change your life! |
