4.0 out of 5 stars Creepy Psycho Thriller November 23, 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Claude Bouchard has made a name for himself on Twitter, boasting more than 115,000 followers. He is also starting to make a name for himself as a writer of crime thrillers. His first two, "Vigilante" and "The Consultant," were ambitious efforts. They were hampered by certain linguistic infelicities, suggesting more than anything, that Bouchard could use an editor. However, despite their flaws, the stories were compelling, and the interaction between Montreal Police Lieutenant Dave McCall, and dotcom-entrepreneur-cum-vigilante-cum-covert-domestic-agent Chris Berry, was appealing. The relationship between the two men grew closer and more natural in the second book than in the first, which demonstrated authorial growth.

Happily, that growth continued in the third installation of the McCall-Berry collaboration. In this story, a series of sex-themed murders baffles McCall and his team of murder detectives. Is there a serial killer on the loose, or are there a series of killers at work? And who is the arrogant, dismissive psychologist who alternately assists and hinders the investigation? The ending may surprise you. It did me, and that doesn't happen very often.

Bouchard is often at his best when allowing his characters to roam freely through his native Montreal. His wears his affection for the city on his sleeve, which is not a bad thing in this situation.

"Mind Games" is definitely worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Claude Bouchard yet! October 2, 2012
By ppsphil
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Absolutely WOW !!!!!!!! I don't think I can ever remember any book I've read with such an explosive and surprising ending and, yet, an ending that, in hindsight (which is a helluva lot easier than foresight!) should have been seen coming!
I'm still shaking !!!!
Mind Games is far and away the best, so far, of Claude Bouchard's Vigilante, or Barry/McCall, series and I'm sure on board for the next one - The Homeless Killer.
Although it is possible to read these in any order as standalone novels it is very much better to read 'em in order to see not only the character development in the stories but, also, the development of Claude's writing.
The weird Kindle formatting of the first two books has improved immensely with only a couple of curiously almost blank pages and the editing has improved to the point where the very few remaining and very minor proof reading gaffs don't affect the story flow making this a very pleasurable read indeed! Great Stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind Games plays "mind games" in the best way May 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Claude Bouchard really knocked it out of the park with this third volume of the Barry/McCall series. Without realizing it until the very end (no spoiler here) the mind games are in many ways directed toward the reader. That, in itself, makes this a "must purchase" in my opinion. I loved the suspense and believe Mr. Bouchard did an exceptional job of keeping the reader guessing until the very last pages of the book.

This is another terrific addition to the series and one that propelled me to purchase all of the remaining Barry/McCall books. I am just going to need many more before the summer is over!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this series September 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Claude weaves a great story that has you cheering for the "bad guy" in the same way the series Dexter has you cheering for him. I really like that it's based in Canada well, I look forward to reading more of his books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exercise your Mind September 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Another fine work by Claude Bouchard! I've read all of his Vigilante Series novels and enjoyed each one. This one will give your brain a nice workout. You might think you know what or who is running these evil events, but prepare to doubt yourself at times.
I also think the writing of this style of novel would be very difficult, for many reasons, however, Bouchard handles this task perfectly. The reader will enjoy all of the characters and especially the ending...suspense-filled.
I highly recommend 'Mind Games'. "Nice work, Claude. Keep writin' and smilin'..."

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Another Page Turner From Claude Bouchard July 7, 2012
By Eric S
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The third in the Barry/McCall series, Mind Games is a riveting and graphic tale of the hunt for a sadistic serial killer who has the city of Montreal on edge. Mr. Bouchard once again expertly spins a yarn of criminal intrigue as Montreal's finest race to get a step ahead of a killer who is bent on committing seemingly random and grisly murders of a sexual nature. The bodies(and body parts)pile up quickly with few leads, prompting Chris Barry to get involved in order to aid his long time friend, Captain Dave McCall.

As always with this author, there are twists and surprises within the plot along with clues designed to allow the reader an opportunity to solve the mystery before the brilliant duo ultimately does so. Much akin to Mr. Bouchard's previous offerings, it's tough to put this one down once you begin so prepare your schedule accordingly. Splendidly entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to the series April 22, 2012
By Sharon
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This series continues to entertain. At this point, it is definitely one of the series I am following. I enjoy the characters, who continue to develop and the plots are never boring or predictable.

The pacing was good with a deft touch on the misdirection, as I absolutely did not see the end coming. After the fact, I could see there were some faint indications, but they certainly were not obvious at the time.

Excellent addition to this series.

More About the Author

I was born in Montreal, Canada, at a very young age, where I still live with my spouse, Joanne, under the watchful eye of Krystalle and Midnight, two black females of the feline persuasion. In a former life, I completed my studies at McGill University and worked in various management capacities for a handful of firms for countless years. From there, considering my extensive background in human resources and finance, it was a logical leap in my career path to stay home and write crime thrillers.

My first stab at writing was actually in 1995, the result being my first novel, "Vigilante". Two others of the same series followed by 1997 but all three remained dormant until publication in 2009. Since, besides writing a stand-alone, seven other thrillers have joined the VIGILANTE series. I also penned "Something's Cooking", a faux-erotica parody and cookbook under the pseudonyms Réal E. Hotte and Dasha Sugah. I'm currently working on "Sins in the Sun", the eleventh installment of my series.

Other interests besides writing and subtly persuading people to buy my books include reading, making noise with my six guitars, painting (oil and watercolour), cooking (year round though I love the grill in the summer), traveling and planning to work out soon. I've also been known to sleep on occasion.

You can visit my website at which is almost as fun as DisneyLand and absolutely free.
