4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for your brain
This game is a challenge for your brain, and as a 30-something PSP fan, this game takes me back to my high school days - which is not a bad thing. This game does what it claims to do...help train your brain to improve reflex, memory, and thinking skills. This game does what it claims to do...help train your brain to improve reflex, memory, and thinking skills. However, as you play this game, you just can't help feeling like you are taking a test -- the same test you used to take in highscool -- over and over again. There is not a lot of variety in the question types due to the limitations of the PSP buttons. At one point, you will start wondering why you are playing this game, when there are so many other great titles on the PSP that are much more entertaining.

In a nutshell, if your goal is to improve your thinking/memory skills, this is a good buy. Just don't expect to have a good time or look forward to playing this day after day.

3.0 out of 5 stars Brain Drain, January 12, 2007
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mind Quiz (Video Game)
There have been so many companies right now, trying to create games that test the stimulating mind, and how good or not so good we all think and react. Since Brain Age came out last year for the Nintendo DS, many companies have all wanted to get on the brain dran ride. There have been numerous handheld games that have involved Sudoku, rapid tests of speed on math, and many other things that have all been as challenging as the original. Now, the latest knockoff is set to come from the Sony PSP. They've really struggled with making definitive stand outs unlike the Nintendo DS these past few years. Now a knockoff mind game is out that feels something like DS owners have mastered before.

Mind Quiz for the Sony PSP, is a game that tests the brain on speed and intelligence. The game features over 49 different challenges, that those who've mastered the rankings of Brain Age and Big Brain Academy for the Nintendo DS feel as if they might be cheated upon. The graphics are delightful and the control runs a bit smoother on the push-buttons rather than the Nintendo DS, but sadly there isn't really as much in variety as well as excitement in this game. Most of the games are similar to Big Brain Academy like which side has the most in value, and speed math where you have to master how fast and accurate you have to get each answer correct. There really isn't anything new and exciting here in this game that seperates and thrives as well here.

All in all, Mind Quiz for the PSP isn't really as stimulating as a knockoff game. If you don't own a Nintendo DS and own a PSP only, than this game really is worth a try. Otherwise, you just are better off with Brain Age for the Nintendo DS because there is much more originality there than here.

This game is a challenge for your brain, and as a 30-something PSP fan, this game takes me back to my high school days - which is not a bad thing. This game is very challenging - but once you get the hang of it, you can be very successful. At that point, the game then becomes a matter of how fast you can press a button, which seems to me to be a measure of reflex as opposed to intelligence. Game will ultimately get repetative but there are many, many types of puzzling questions to figure out in the meantime. I recommend this game to anyone who enjoys numbers and math, much like myself. If this does not describe you - then you will likely not enjoy this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun with Good Variety, July 24, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mind Quiz (Video Game)
Mind Quiz for the PSP is yet another entrant in the test-your-brain game category. It's really hard for a PSP game to compare with the DS platform in this arena, but Mind Quiz gives it its best shot.

In DS games you have a touch screen, so the games can be very open ended. If you get a series of addition questions, you can write down the answers. That means the answers can be any number.

With the PSP, you are limited to pressing buttons for the answers. This means you can only choose from between four choices, no matter which puzzle you're playing. If you're counting blocks, or adding up shapes, it's always going to be one of four things. Often just scanning the choices can tell you which one is closest to right and click it.

Also, this means you have a double job to do each time. Say for question 1 they want you to add the highest and lowest. They show you four random answers and you choose one. Now for question 2 they again want you to add highest and lowest - and all 4 answers are different from the first four. Not only do you have to figure out what the correct answer is by solving the problem, but then you have to scan the possible answer pile to figure out where they PUT the correct answer this time. Maybe sometimes the "4" is X, Other times it's square.

I do like the question variety. There are more little puzzle types here than in many other brain training games (and I think we've tried them all :) ). You can also choose the difficulty level and the number of questions to play with. This gives you a lot of variety in playing. As you play you unlock real animal photos to look at. A silly little bonus, but some of them are quite cute! There's also of course a daily exam you can take, and a challenge mode where you're sent to work on a whole slew of puzzles at once.

You can't really blame Mind Quiz for its limitations. It was made for the PSP, and it can only do what the PSP can do. I found the interface very nice to work with and in general really enjoyed playing this.

3.0 out of 5 stars I was expecting more, June 17, 2007

This game does make your brain more agile, but it's at the same time challenging. To score you really must solve the problems quick, so quick that it will count against you MANY YEARS of brain age if you delay a little.

The games repeat themselves, it has about 6 different type of problems tops. I'd experiment with something else on this genre, although it does fulfill its purpose. I was just expecting something else, I guess. So, it didn't do it for me. It's so repetitive, I hardly play it and you can only save your score once a day, although you can practise all you want.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh...it's okay., May 20, 2008
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Mind Quiz (Video Game)
Mind Quiz is a tedious game that has its moments. If you're looking for a Brain Age "puzzler" for PSP, this is as close as it gets. There are two good things I can say about this game. First, it's enjoyable to take the Mind Quiz Test...the one you can only take once a day...to see how your score today compares to your score yesterday. After playing for four days, I went down 20 years in age. The second good thing about this game are the adorable animal pictures you get as a reward when doing the training quizzes and receiving an A on those quizzes.

The cons are that the quizzes are tedious and you feel like you're working on a game rather than PLAYING a game. Doing simple arithmetic, pressing corresponding buttons, memorizing 7 numbers, counting shapes and boxes, and selecting colors is not really my idea of a good time, no matter how many animal pictures you send my way.

But while it may not be my cup of tea, it may be yours. I think this game would be great for people who love math and repetitive tasks.

This is a good game. It does have a variety of tests to challenge the mind. It gives you practice tests before taking actual tests. I would recommend, if you like memory tests, some fill-in-the-blank tests, math questions, and tests that time your reactions.

I purchased a PSP for myself because I travel and wanted boredom relief. Well after many months of watching movies and playing games on the PSP I decided to buy MInd Quiz. The PSP was all mine. My wife wanted nothing to do with it, after all it's a video game player. One day she decided to try Mind Quiz. I am considering buying her a separate PSP. We power struggle over it like a couple of children. I have to pry it out of her hands when she falls asleep because she constantly plays Mind Quiz. I want my PSP back dear wife! Get you own damn PSP!

I love the minigames or tests you take in this one. My only quibble is they age you 10 years just for missing one question on the brain age test. This is based on the theories from the same neurologist who influenced the DS's Brain Age. I think it is just as fun.

The best in its kind. It helps you to improve your memory, reflects, logics, etc.
It is very easy to play, and the level of difficulty is endless. Is perfect for boys and adults. It doesn't have any violence. It is and example that you can play by learning something.
