4.0 out of 5 stars Changelling fun - for serious 'thinkers' only!
I have had this game for years, and have loved it from the beginning. It is easy to understand, but not for anyone who doesn't like to think. The cards are often complicated - it's not like a trivia game! Sometimes a question can take a while to ponder and figure out, so it's not for anyone who wants a fast paced game. 2.0 out of 5 stars overpriced and silly
The premise behind this game (questions that don't involve trivia) is interesting, but the game really falls flat. The questions are all either ridiculously easy or impossible, with nothing in between. It can be very frustrating when one player gets three easy questions in a row, while someone else gets all the impossible ones. The other problem, and this is a big...

The game is very challenging and fun for people who like logic games. It is best played with a group, but can be adapted to play in pairs as well. I will even pull out random cards myself for fun! The sceond version, Mindtrap II, is somewhat better, with many different types of questions. However, I would reccomend this to get you ready for the second version!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun with critical thinking..., August 16, 2000
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

I played "Mindtrap" for the first time last weekend. What a mind-bending blast! The game includes a set of cards with different situations that include problems to solve, situations to figure out, and questions to ponder. You (and any number of partners) have the chance to come up with your best shot at providing an answer to questions in an effort to beat the opposing team.

There is a movement in education that promotes the development of something called "critical thinking." This game is an excellent source of examples of critical thinking exercises. Here are a few to try on for size:

"A moonshiner always gets his grain from the same supplier. After the moonshine is done he gives 10% of the stuff to his grain supplier. At the end of one such exchange the moonshiner ended up with exactly 1 liter of moonshine. How much did the grain supplier get?"

Here's another one to ponder...

"How many months have 28 days?"

After an evening with this game you will readily admit that things are not always as they appear to be.

There's a whole box of these kinds of engaging questions. If you enjoy a good brain-cramp, this game is definitely for you.

Top-notch interactive entertainment for adults and teens.

5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars MindTrap in math class, November 30, 2000

I teach high school math and I think it is so important to teach our kids to think logically and to look for detail. I can't think of any better game to reinforce these skills. We split the class into teams and compete against each other just for the fun of it. Although we have so little time to get all of our regular curriculum taught, it is also good to take a break before a vacation and make them think they aren't doing anything related to math...They love this game and so do I! (MindTrap II offers some new team challenges too using tangrams and other visual skills contests!)

The premise behind this game (questions that don't involve trivia) is interesting, but the game really falls flat. The questions are all either ridiculously easy or impossible, with nothing in between. It can be very frustrating when one player gets three easy questions in a row, while someone else gets all the impossible ones. The other problem, and this is a big one, is that lots of these questions have more than one logical answer, so how to you give credit to something that sounds reasonable, but isn't on the card? This game claims to be requiring "outside-the-box" thinking skills, but then puts you right back in the box with the limited answer choices.

Also, why should a game that consists of a bunch of paper cards cost $ ?

5.0 out of 5 stars Like thinking around corners?, November 29, 1999

This is my favorite game. If you enjoy trick questions, riddles, and thinking around corners, this game is for you. Every question has a trick behind it. Play this game, and soon you will see a trend; certain types of brains are great at this game (engineers, computer geeks, etc.), and some types of brains just don't get it. (straight-thinkers) You either love this game, or deem it "a waste of time"

5.0 out of 5 stars A real thinking man's game!, November 14, 1999

Looking for a great group game? Want the prefect thinking man's game? Pick up Pressman Toys Mindtrap and let the fun begin. This game will definitely change the way you think.

The game has short but easy to follow instructions that are clear and should have you playing in less than five minutes. Individuals can play the game, but I found that team play was more challenging.

The game has 2 versions, a long and short game. The special die determines the number of spaces that you move if you answer the question correctly. For a more challenging play, you can move one space for a correct answer.

The game has inquiry cards that allow you to get help in playing, but the help answers are yes, no or irrelevant, so phrasing the question is very important. Overall this game is excellent and I can hardly wait to play Mindtrap II!

This game contains riddles that require you to think "outside the box." If you expect the questions and corresponding answers to follow the same format as "Jeopardy" or "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" then go somewhere else. This is a lateral thinking game not a trivia game. Great for travel with friends. Two brains up!

This has to be one of the most idiotic games out there. Often the answer is impossible to get using the information you are given, other times the answer is so weird you'd never guess it. My husband and I are intelligent people and yet we just end up frustrated and annoyed, and usually give up before the game has ended.

As a person who plays a lot of trivia games and enjoys puzzles I was disappointed in Mindtrap. The questions seemed to be intentionally misleading and you would be "surprised" by the answer which contained information not given in the question. The game usually resulted in a lot of frustration.

Instead of clever and entertaining mind-benders, the questions and their solutions in this game are largely contrived and obscure. A few questions are so easy that you wonder whether they've crept into the wrong game, while most of the rest are so contrived as to be unanswerable. Not a good family game as it leads to frustration and boredom while waiting for participants to try to guess the solutions. Also the game allows no room for the possibility that alternative acceptable solutions exist if not the same as the one given. I do not recommend this game for family fun.
