5.0 out of 5 stars ETX Is back !, November 23, 2007
This review is from: Mind Games (Audio CD)
This inst exactly a review per say. Yes I love this album and it's been one of my favorites since I was 16 (I'm 24 now). However I wanted to write and let you all know that Keith Sudano is back with a new line up that is hard at work on a brand new album.
I've heard every song from the new album and can say it is more than deserving of the name Eternity X. While in many ways it's different from "Mind Games" or "The edge" the heart of the songs are still there. IF anything it's just shown a growth in the band. Many of the songs on it were written by Keith at the same time as "The Edge".

I suggest you all contact your favorite labels and tell them to get Eternity X. Also feel free to send your notes to the band via eternity-x.com .

Take care!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, May 7, 2006

I believe Mind Games stands on it's own. It is a moving album with some heavy subject material. Eulogy is the song I want played at my funeral and my baby was conceived while "Endless Journey" played in the background. This CD holds it's own right as a masterpiece. it should not be compared to their 1997 album "The Edge" nor their 1993 release "Zodiac." These two album are unlike each other and unlike MG. ETX moves me like no other band...I urge you to get this album.

I had the honor of meeting Keith since he lives in my hometown and he was gracious and amongst the good guys of this world. From what I hear they are putting out more material and the band is reforming! Hallelujah!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, January 27, 2002

This is one of the best progressive metal albums I've heard in my life. Keith Sudano is probably the most amazing singer in this genre. Buy it and see for yourself.

4.0 out of 5 stars Close to _The Edge_., June 24, 2001

This review is from: Mind games (Audio CD)
Mind Games is the bridge between the straightforward metal of Zodiac and the progressive masterpiece The Edge. As such, the band's progressive aspirations are gaining a little more of a foothold in the music. That's not readily apparent however. The album opens with the upfront, crunchy spitfire attack of "Firestorm," with vocalist Keith Sudano's plosive phrasing sounding dubiously like Geoff Tate (although his actual voice is very different). From there, the album becomes more challenging, with less direct approach to songwriting: the wet, gray textures of the sad "Despair"; the steady, suspenseful progressions of "Endless Journey." Thematically the album explores endless conflict within the mind. This exemplified best with the title track, punctuated by aggressive, crunchy riffs and cool lyrics... "I am your nightmare, I am you." Mind Games is an important album in observing the nascent potential ready to be commanded by Eternity X.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as "The Edge" ... but then again, few are, October 21, 2000
This review is from: Mind Games (Audio CD)
This was the second Eternity X album I acquired, working backwards from _The Edge_. It's similar to _The Edge_ in the way that each song seems to offer something unique to the listener. The similarities kind of end there however, as _The Edge_ is a piano-laden progressive metal masterpiece while _Mind Games_ comes across as more of a hodge-podge of sorts. Not that I intend to be too harsh towards _Mind Games_, it does offer a lot in its 10 song (plus bonus tracks) package. This album really does have it all in the way of variety, making it valuable in it's own right. I found too many of the tracks to be disposable, however, for me to consider it a great album. None-the-less, certain songs on this album (mainly "Eulogy" and 3 or 4 others) are simply too good to be happy without.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mind Games: Eternity X's Rage for Order, February 11, 2000

Joe White (Layton, Utah United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mind Games (Audio CD)
If Eternity X's Operation: Mindcrime (Queensryche) is their third full-length album the Edge, then Mind Games (ETX's second album) is Eternity X's Rage for Order. Like Rage for Order, Mind Games is a horrific journey into the darker side of the human soul. Where Rage for Order questioned technological progress, Mind Games is more psychological than technological. Mind Games gives us a glimpse of the darker side of human nature: Suicide, mental illness and depression are all themes that Eternity X tackles on this album. And they do it brilliantly. Eternity X does progressive metal better than anybody. Mind Games is progressive music at it's finest. Maybe not a masterpiece, but it does come close.

Eternity X does have many similarities to Queensryche. Other bands I'd compare ETX to (at least on this album) include Megadeth, Iron Maiden and Rush.
