I bought this set for my 5-year-old son for Christmas, and he loves it! The pieces are simple enough for him to figure out on his own, and he likes creating new configurations.

I have one suggestion that would bump this product up to 5 stars in my opinion, and that's to create bases to collect the marbles once they go through a maze. This set would benefit GREATLY if the marbles had somewhere to go once they're done with their runs. As it is, they just go through the run at lightening speed, and then they scatter. Part of the fun is to see which run collects the most marbles, but that's almost impossible. We tried rigging up little bowls under some of the endings but it's awkward.

The towers topple pretty easily, and are uneven if you're not symmetrical in your maze, so they often lean and then the marbles will only go one direction. This problem would also be solved with the addition of sturdy base pieces.

For these reasons, you'll want to make sure you assemble towers in a tray of some kind, or you'll be searching for the marbles in the rugs, vents, or under furniture constantly. They're the perfect size for swallowing or causing people to slip (or ruining vacuums) so we count the marbles after every playtime (there are 20 in this set) and the kids know they have to find them if they lose one. This is also a bit of a downer.

Nevertheless, my son likes it, so it was worth the purchase price!

This was a holiday gift for my 6 year old son who has been saying that he has wanted a marble run as a present for at least a year now. I hadn't gotten him any since he has a younger brother and I wanted to make sure he wasn't a threat to swallow the marbles or any small pieces. I saw this in a Mindware catalog and it piques my interest. The thing I liked the best was that it looked pretty, but you could make it ANY way you want. So, you can make as many different marble runs as you want and even add sets later if you want to make larger sructures. A lot of other products had few ways to assemble them and comments were that the parents had a hard time assembling them. My 6 year old caught on realy quick on how to assemble one. We made our first one in a few minutes and we then had discussions about center of gravity so our structure didn't tip over and having multiple entry points which was really interesting to him. As our creation had a somewhat narrow base and got pretty tall, it has fallen over a few times, but we were quickly able to reassemble it as it broke into large sections.

My son rarely issues thank you's on his own accord without being asked and he was thanking my husband and I within minutes of seeing this present. We are all quite pleased with this item and highly recommend it to anyone whose child wants a marble run.

As a play therapist, I'm always on the look out for cool new games, toys, and activities to use with my clients. When I saw the Q ba maze, my mind started teeming, as it so often does, of all the different therapeutic applications of this kind of marble run: managing frustration, developing sequencing skills, teaching critical thinking skills, concocting elaborate metaphors for making choices and evaluating consequences, etc. No, I wasn't just coming up with justifications for buying a new shiny toy... at least, not entirely. I figured the 50 piece starter set would suit my purposes nicely.

I had read some reviews about the puzzle being difficult to put together, I thought it wise to test it out at home before using the run with clients. I enlisted my boyfriend to play test the starter set with me. That turned out to be a mistake.

My boyfriend, who is an upstanding citizen and an executive in the non-profit sector, spent the better part of a Sunday engrossed in this little run. He and I... Mostly he... build dozens of run permutations. He built them, tested them, rebuilt them, retested them... If we didn't have a dinner date, I don't know if he would ever have left our living room. Whenever I mentioned bringing the q ba maze to work, he looked at me like I'd just kicked a puppy. He said something about how he needed to do "extensive testing" for "at least a few months," so he could "make sure the toy was *completely* safe" for my clients. In other words; "why are you making me part with this cool new toy?"

We now have a big box and a mega stunt set on the way. He's already surveying the plans on the q ba maze website: [...]
To some up my meandering little story: this run is a hit with the kid at heart who lives with me. The pieces fit together very easily.

I got this set for my 3 year old, and I have to say it is one of the coolest things ever. The day we received it, I built him a structure, and he literally played with it for a good 2 hours. He cannot build with the pieces yet, but I realize he is younger than the suggested age. We build the mazes on our light table, which is really cool. You can go to their website to get plans to build all kinds of structures. We built the fish that it shows on the box. It took a little while to figure out the plans, but, once we got the hang of it, it was pretty easy. I highly recommend this product. We plan on buying more sets; my husband even wants one for his office :)
