5.0 out of 5 stars A Revelation
If you're a fan of the Nuggets collections, this CD will be a revelation. I first heard "I Don't Understand" on Little Steven's Underground Garage on the radio a few weeks ago, and was blown away. These guys have got that '66 to '68 garage thing down perfectly. Apparently they've been doing it for about 25 years, and it shows on this record. They're not...

3.0 out of 5 stars Some Filler
I purchased this CD after hearing the track "Running Through My Nightmares" on Little Steven's Underground Garage. I was kind of half pleased/half dissappointed when I listened to this album. It's not bad, but I don't think it's quite as good as others do. There is quite a bit of filler on this album.

It starts off with 3 great songs, all deserving a 5/5...

They're not trying to _do_ retro music, this _is_ their music.

The songs are consistently good, with lots of attitude, hooks and variety. Not a ballad in the bunch to disrupt the vibe. You'll hear echoes of Love's "Seven and Seven Is", the Stones "Paint it Black" and "Jumpin' Jack Flash", Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction", "Gloria" by Them, and Jefferson Airplane circa Surrealistic Pillow. Great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars I picked this CD up when I getting their newest CD. I'm glad I did!, September 20, 2007
By
September 18, 2007 was a day I splurged on two Chesterfield Kings CD's and Rhino's newest 4CD box set. This CD has been around since 2003 and I kept putting off on getting it. Boy am I glad I bought it!

If you like garage-rock revival and The Rolling Stones at their best inspired rock this CD is hard to beat. I managed two get three 5-star rated songs off of it.

Pay attention to the "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" item. I would say check out "Let's Go Get Stoned" by Chesterfield Kings, "Outta The Nest" by Vipers, "The Essential Radio Birdman" by Radio Birdman (one of my best Aussie garage finds), and of course "Psychedelic Sunrise" by the Chesterfield kings.

Anyway here is my mini-review of this CD:

(4) Trip Through Tomorrow - The Chesterfield Kings - 2003 - "One of the BEST tracks on this CD? GOOD first impression. Notable psychedelic guitar hooks." - The Mindbending Sounds Of...The Chesterfield Kings (Wicked Cool Record)-2006.

(8) Stems And Flowers - The Chesterfield Kings - 2003 - "ACCURATE Seeds-esque guitar interplay. Very good Jagger-esque vocals. Play on words? stems, flowers, Seeds-esque, get it?" - The Mindbending Sounds Of...The Chesterfield Kings (Wicked Cool.

(11) Mystery Trip - The Chesterfield Kings - 2003 - "The BEST track on this CD bar none. Greg Prevost sounds BETTER then Mick Jagger on this one. I have a outstanding video of this song at my site that must be seen." - The Mindbending Sounds Of...The Chesterfield Kings (Wicked Cool Record)-2006.

Other songs of note are:

(6) Death Is The Only Real Thing - "From the opening guitar hooks and Jagger-esque vocals you know this song is going to be good! GOOD first impression."

(7) Disconnection - "Outstanding Jagger-esque vocals. Excellent guitar RIFFS. "

(9) Flashback - "Another tribute to "The Rolling Stones". It don't get better then this! Some nice psych guitar riffs."

(14) The Fading Of My Mind - "Shades of the Stones at their sitar psychedic best. A hint of backwards guitar to get you higher."

If your a Chesterfield Kings fan you can't go wrong having this in your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars They've come a long way.., April 22, 2006
This review is from: Mindbending Sounds of (Audio CD)
I'm from the Rochester area and purchased the Chesterfield Kings's first album back when I was in high school (early 80's). It was a cool album and cool to see a bunch of covers done so well by a bunch of local guys (You could see Greg and Andy working in the local record store House of Guitars. In fact, you still can!). I bought their second album also, but didn't think too much of it. They were trying their hand at writing their own songs, with mixed results.

I hadn't purchased anything by the band in 20 years but did recently when I was in a local cd store browsing. This cd is incredible. They've become great songwriters in the years since I listened to them last. If you like early Stones' singles, like Jumpin' Jack Flash, I think you'll like this stuff. This stuff sounds kind of trippy at times, but maintains that kind of snotty-punk vibe of the early Stones. Very good.

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECTION, August 30, 2004
This review is from: Mindbending Sounds of (Audio CD)
THIS IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST ALBUM BY THE CHESTERFIELD KINGS! THIS IS THE LP THAT ABSOLUTELY SECURES THEIR REP AS ONE OF THE PREMIER AMERICAN ROCK AND ROLL BANDS EVER. LYRICALLY AND MUSICALLY THIS ALBUM IS A+ STRAIGHT DOWN THE LINE. I'VE BEEN A FAN SINCE I FIRST HEARD THEM IN '82, BUT MAN OH MAN!, THIS LP HAS GOT THE 60'S GARAGE/PSYCH/ ROLLING STONES/ ROCK & ROLL IN THE POCKET WITHOUT THE POSER BS! THE PRODUCTION IS INCREDIBLE - I'M FLOORED BY THE SONGWRITING! ALSO, THEIR NEW GUITARIST PAUL MORABITO IS FANTASTIC. GET THIS ALBUM! - IT'S ESSENTIAL! PICK UP THEIR "LET'S GO GET STONED" LP/CD WHILE YOU'RE AT IT AS WELL! LONG LIVE THE CHESTERFIELD KINGS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome 60s Rock, January 4, 2009
This is probably the best record I have heard in the past year. It sounds like it was made in 1967-68, with material on par with the best Rolling Stones records! No small matter...

The first four songs in the album are amazing. The opening "I Don't Understand" is already one of my favourite songs, but the album manages to keep a very high level throughout. Great songs, ringing 12-string Rickenbacker guitars, some well-placed fuzz, and a great vocal delivery, very Jagger-ized.

Recommended particularly to everybody who likes 60s Rock, but also to anybody who likes ROCK.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Kings of Garage Rock, January 23, 2004

Rock & Roll the way it is supposed to be! This is the real deal. If you are just getting into garage rock start here. Everything that is cool with '66 era Rolling Stones, Nuggets, even early Alice Cooper Group rolled into one original package. This album is ground zero 60's rock but at the same time comes across sounding very cutting edge. The Kings have been doing this for a long time and this is their masterpiece. Rumour has it they will be touring behind this album. If you have a chance to see them do it. I can testify that their live show is a force to be reckoned with. Rock & Roll lives... in Rochester New York.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some Filler, December 22, 2006

I purchased this CD after hearing the track "Running Through My Nightmares" on Little Steven's Underground Garage. I was kind of half pleased/half dissappointed when I listened to this album. It's not bad, but I don't think it's quite as good as others do. There is quite a bit of filler on this album.

It starts off with 3 great songs, all deserving a 5/5 rating in my opinion. After that we have "Trip Through Tomorrow", which is not as good as the first three songs, but still pretty good.

After these four tracks, however, the album starts to go downhill. We have some ok songs such as "Transparent Life", "Flashback", and "Endless Circles", but everything else is pretty much filler. It seems like the band came up with some excellent songs, but then just whipped together the others to fill up the rest of the album.

I still don't regret buying this CD, however. Like I said, the first 3 tracks are all great. These songs are not buyable through Napster or Rhapsody, so my only way of getting them was to buy the whole album. If you're looking for this CD, however, don't buy one of the used copies from the sellers here for $30; you can get it at Best Buy for only $9!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic, Purist, 60's Garage Band Groove, June 1, 2004

I had the pleasure of seeing the Chesterfield Kings play live at Toad's Place in CT. What an experience! The minute the band walked on stage there was an aura about them. They proceeded to level the place with their authentic 60's rock that had everybody smilin' and groovin'. So their latest album was a must have just from a souvenier point of view. But in listening to it you just can't help getting a kick out of the energy and talent these guys have. Their groove is sincere, the execution flawless and the lead singer is phenominal. I love this stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock & Roll!!!, February 25, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Mindbending Sounds of (Audio CD)
This is real garage rock & roll, not to be confused with the current day pretenders. Lead singer Greg Prevost has the Mick Jagger, Mark Lindsay, garage rock snarl down to a tee. A reviewer below suggests "they sack their singer" for a girl. This is insane. For one their singer is a founding member and songwriter. As far as saying he has a limited range, well that is like saying Mick Jagger sounds the same on the early Stones albums, or perhaps Bob Dylan, who writes good songs, should have a female sing them...

If you like the Stones, Chocolate Watchband, Seeds, or others from the heyday of garage punk (1966) you will love this CD. This is as authentic as it gets in both sound and attitude. If you want to hear Grace Slick sing there are plenty of Jefferson Airplane CDs for sale here.

I just saw this band in Cleveland and they blew the roof off of the place. A top-notch live act.
