Book Description

Astonishing comeuppance on tap!

Once, in a dream, after some powerful persuasion by disembodied voices, Conrad Buncombe is pitted against desire... and wins! He barely has time to celebrate when a sapphire-eyed beauty emerges tapping and reciting from a fold in his mind. The dream light immediately homes in on her, and he is nudged to the sideline.

Woe is he! Conrad Buncombe had only stepped out of the light - his light - to harness desire. Now he is a spectator to his own dream. Nightly, the sapphire-eyed beauty turns out - tapping her beat, crooning her verse; and nightly he schemes for control. The gig, however, is totally hers. His dream light makes it so; and he greatly desires to get back in before another whit of his mind is snatched.

Against a backdrop of surreal muck and bother, in an abyss that presents as a looking-glass nightmare, Conrad Buncombe is pitted against desire a second time. Down, down, down he goes. Where he stops, nobody knows! Everything, including his smile, is up for grabs as he wends his way wherever. Does he harness desire? Does desire harness him? Tap along and find out...

Ida-Rose will keep you challenged to come to your own conclusion on this quirky, innovative book. I believe we will all be looking inside our own dreams to figure out if we have this capability also. I know that it makes me wonder, am I able to bring the dream reality into my daily life? You will not be disappointed with this book!

4.0 out of 5 stars For The Deep Thinker, June 12, 2007

This review is from: Mindful of Madness (Paperback)
Ms. Mead challenges the 'deep thinker' in her query into the subconcsious and the dreamworld. For those that love imagery, metaphor, and wallowing in imagination, Mindful of Madness is for you. Playing off the innate qualities in the human psyche, the author explores the power intrinsic in the fleshly abode. Is desire something to be overcome? Can it? Or, is desire the instrument that plays the music to which we dance through life/s? It's up to the reader to decide. Will you root for Conrad's victory, or relish his defeat? I wished only for a little more variety in conflict, or was it the redundancy that was, indeed, the reality?

4.0 out of 5 stars The Maze of Conrad Buncombe, June 10, 2007
By
Russ Heitz (Sarasota, Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mindful of Madness (Paperback)
This is a well-written, smoothly-flowing, and symbol-filled allegory about Life. It includes the struggles we all must confront as we bumble forward, one step at a time. It is about the roadblocks that stand in our way. It is about the people who want us to fail. It is about God and conscience. It is about the importance of love and the passage of time. It is about perseverence and triumph. It is about struggling toward -- and then finally reaching -- our desperately sought-after goals. But the author also questions the meaning and the worthiness of that struggle. She does so by pointing out some sobering truths about victory, about success itself. This is a small book with a very large purpose. It is sometimes overly repetitive in its phrasing and imagery but if you enjoy the deciphering of mysteries and the interpretation of symbols, Mindful of Madness might be the book for you.
