5.0 out of 5 stars If You Just Wanna Learn How
If you are not particularly interested in following the Buddhist Path and just want to learn to practice mindfulness in order to expand your awareness (with all of its benefits) then this is the book for you. Ron Siegel is an excellent teacher. He succeeds in the very difficult task of explaining how to practice mindfulness better than anyone I've read or heard speak...

3.0 out of 5 stars Started out very good then got very repetitive
I covered about 1/2 the book and liked what I read, then the contents got into areas that turned my attention from what really is mindfulness. In addition, would have preferred more positive than dwelling on the repetition of issues related to problems that most of us may not have. Overall the book did not encourage me in the direction I expected so off to the next...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mindfulness Solution is Simply Phenomenal......., February 9, 2010
Although I am familiar with Ron Siegel's work from a professional standpoint, his new book "the mindfulness solution: Everyday Practices for Everyday Problems" treks a cut above most self-help guides to mindfulness meditation. Siegel does an extraordinary job blending science, therapy and tradition in an easy-to-read enjoyable format. This is a must-read for anyone interested in incorporating mindfulness meditation into their daily lives and will certainly contribute to more effective therapy outcomes for those of us practicing in the mental health professions. The Mindfulness Solution offers a multitude of easy to use formal, as well as informal, meditation practices to help out with the everyday problems that we all face at times- to the more difficult emotional and/or physical roadblocks that contribute to our suffering. Ron Siegel presents the building blocks to a more mindful path with clarity, simplicity and a down-to-earth sense of humor that makes for an enjoyable, warm and transforming read. Do yourself a favor and check this out....and see for yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and practical, February 28, 2010
With equal parts wisdom and humor, Dr. Siegel has created a comprehensive, practical guide to the application of mindfulness to a wide range of emotional and behavioral problems, including anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, addictions, illness, aging and death. Backed by the latest research and filled with detailed instructions on specific mindfulness techniques, this book is simple enough for the beginner and substantial enough for the more advanced practitioner. As a psychotherapist, I have already recommended it to several clients and have heard back from them that they found it immensely helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, readable, and even funny, July 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Mindfulness meditation has changed my life. I'm a therapist and have been teaching it to all my clients. I collect every book I can find on the subject. This is one of the most brilliant. Often writers are showing off how complicated they can make a subject but Dr. Siegel does just the opposite. He makes the subject clear as a bell. The writing has truly been written for a general audience, it's a very easy read. On top of all that, it's actually funny in spots. I mean, don't expect a barrel of laughs but Dr. Siegel obviously has a sense of humor and it shines like a beacon. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Huge Contribution, September 5, 2010
Standing on the shoulders of Thich Nhat Hanh and Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ronald Siegel has made an enormous contribution to the field of bringing mindfulness practice into daily life. His book is at once readable, funny, inspiring and comprehensive. Drawing on his many years as a meditator, therapist and mindfulness teacher, Dr. Siegel provides an excellent introduction to the practice of mindfulness as well as many opportunities for those with greater experience to deepen their practices. He flows easily between the discussion of common clinical issues, such as anxiety, depression, physical pain or addictions, a range of practices for each problem, and many illustrative vignettes from his practice. Dr. Siegel also takes on the core experiences of being a human being--relationships, sex, parenting, aging and death--in a way that informs and joins the reader on the journey. An impressive blending of simplicity, directness and scholarship, "The Mindfulness Solution: Everyday practices for everyday problems" is a book that can be referred to over years for exploring the potential of mindfulness practice to illuminate and enrich our lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to mindfulness practice, February 10, 2011
By
Dave (Brisbane, Australia) - See all my reviews
This book gives a clear introduction to mindfulness meditation and its applications in everyday life. There is very little 'spirituality' (of the ambiguous, metaphysical sort) in the book, which I appreciated, and the author's tone is understanding and matter-of-fact. Practical exercises are given throughout the book. On the whole, a down-to-earth and potentially life-changing read. I use it as the basis and reference for my practice - highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read for living a more mindful life., March 8, 2010
Very good book for beginning mindfulness. It covers a lot of useful meditations and practical advice for everyday issues that we all face. I found the chapters on anxiety and fear to be some of the most helpful I have ever read. I also recommend The Heart of The Buddha's Teaching by Thich Nhat Hahn. [...]

5.0 out of 5 stars Mindfulness in Plain English, April 12, 2010

This review is from: The Mindfulness Solution: Everyday Practices for Everyday Problems (Hardcover)

This author does a marvelous job of translating the teachings of The Buddha into practical psychological insights that we can all use for our personal transformation. Dr. Siegel is clearly a knowledgeable Dharma practitioner. He delivers insight through this book in a smart, readable style that gave me some out-loud laughs as a bonus. The text is peppered with stories and metaphors that illustrate some particularly subtle concepts with lively clarity. I absolutely loved the chapter on "Mindfulness and Intimate Relationships."
I have read a lot of books on the topic of applied mindfulness. I HIGHLY recommend this one for it's wisdom, both inspiring and practical.

Thoughtfully organized, written in a style that is highly accessible, together with excellent summaries regarding how one can begin working and playing with mindfulness and and its practices, the book offers value on multiple levels. I also found the personal vignettes very helpful in seeing how others integrated mindfulness into their lives.
