Book Description

August 5, 2008
In the 21st century new ways of doing business have to be found. Against what has been customary logic in the business world, Aveda and Intelligent Nutrients founder Horst M. Rechelbacher contends that the biggest business opportunities for this century will come from practicing environmentally sound, sustainable business. By creating a merger between self, community, and environment, we will become “eco-preneurs”, reaping the rewards of a healthy abundance and ushering in a new age of enlightened capitalism.

Based on his experience as a highly successful entrepreneur and environmentalist, Horst M. Rechelbacher’s Minding Your Business is a profound and poetic manifesto for social responsibility in business. In his emphasis on sustainable agriculture and indigenous products, Rechelbacher is the leading international voice in the urgent and long-overdue crusade for phasing out the multiplicity of toxic ingredients in cosmetics and personal care products in favor of organic materials. This further emphasizes Rechelbacher’s wise and scientifically indisputable warning “Don’t put anything on your skin that you wouldn’t put in your mouth.”

Review

“I am asked over and over again to introduce books on sustainability and enterprise. This is the first time I said yes because there is knowledge and integrity in this book that measure up to the subject at hand: our destiny, our fate, depending on which path we choose.”

- Paul Hawken
From the Foreword

“In his brilliant book, Minding Your Business, Horst shines a bright light on the path to ‘enlightened capitalism’ and paves the way for a new humane, ethical, and sustainable model of business and success. It is essential reading for visionary entrepreneurs and corporations who want to create success while making a difference in the world. Horst is paving the way for what in the future will be wisdom-based economies in a wisdom based, sustainable, just and peaceful culture focused on the well-being of all.”

- Deepak Chopra
Author, Third Jesus: A Christ We Cannot Ignore and The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success

“With so much wisdom and striking simplicity, Minding Your Business will become one of the most important books of the year.”

5.0 out of 5 stars A Transformative Book November 18, 2011

This book focuses as much on personal growth and development as on creating sound, sustainable businesses. Horst makes a compelling argument for whole systems thinking and leadership that begins with waking up to environmental issues and the opportunities and responsibilities that we have to become agents of social change. The "sustainable to-do list" identifies principles to incorporate into our personal lives and the settings in which we work and lead. It is really a very provocative and inspiring read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Altruistic Business June 21, 2010

I first heard of Horst Recheibacher when reading Candance Pert's seminal book " the Molecules of Emotions"
Molecules Of Emotion: The Science Behind Mind-Body Medicineand the wild funding
ride she was thrown into in finding research grant monies. Her angel investor that saved
the day was Horst who she had met at a conference. The name stuck and when I heard of his book and that
Paul Hawken's wrote its forward I needed to grap a copy. This book begins with an Al Gore quote,
which essentially says that our global environment is an inner crisis that for lack of a better
word is spiritual.

Horst's book takes that spiritual thread and weaves a beautiful
tapestry in each chapter that in itself is a study in consciousness.
The style of the book is personal. the disclosure honest, the
storytelling insightful. The wisdom sagely. The book itself is a mere 146 pages.
Its brevity is its power. Its style of writing is its coloration. Anyone
embracing the desire of manifesting sustainability and creativity will
find this book a perfect companion , a compelling argument for
sustainability. This book in its own right can be looked at as a tool
and each chapter, as a how-to be engaged. Minding your business'
potential not only penetrates the world of business but also
penetrates the physical body. In a chapter there is a quote by
Professor McClelland, from his Harvard research on altruism.
It concludes that altruistic acts consistently boost the immune system.
McClelland's study found that performing or even merely witnessing altruistic actions increases,
immunoglobulin - the antibodies that fight infection and illness.
This is a fitting conclusion to this review. This book is a book of
altruistic business that will raise the spirit of consciousness in the
act of doing business. Enjoy

Is it possible to run a successful industrial business without destroying the planet? "Minding Your Business: Profits that Restore the Planet" is a look at environmentally friendly business practices that can be executed by many businesses with ease. Saying that maintaining the environment will be a big issue of the next century, it calls for 'eco-preneurs' (environmentally minded entrepreneurs) and eco-consumers(environmentally minded consumers) to push business into a newer, more enlightened version of capitalism. For those concerned about the environment while still concerned about their wallet, "Minding Your Business" is a must read.
