4.0 out of 5 stars Good program for researchers and those that need desktop knowledge management

1.0 out of 5 stars Too painful to use. Hinders creativity.
I have used this program for a few months to plan projects, outline reports, and outline business plans. I find myself spending way too much time forcing the bubbles and maps to behave properly. This has absolutely hindered my ability to get my thoughts on paper quickly. The bubbles do not align easily, and they behave in an erratic manner. The formatting features are...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good program for researchers and those that need desktop knowledge management, June 1, 2009
This review is from: Mindjet MindManager 8 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I purchased this software to use as a tool to keep my information organized for my dissertation and also use it for classroom work. As one researches and compiles information in any form, organization is an issue that has to be dealt with early in a program. This software allows one to build mindmaps that can have linkages to documents, web sites, and media so it goes beyond the simple mind mapping software package. It literally allows you to have your mind mapped out on the screen for easy access to information that you have compiled. Linked docs can be viewed within the program in a browser or loaded outside with the native program that uses the document.

I have used many packages to attempt to meet this end and Mindjets MindManager works very well in this area. I recommend that one download the trial software from their site and use it to see if its interface is for you. There are other packages on the market that compete and I have found this one to be quicker and easier on the resources on my laptop.

This software can also be used in a shared mode which would be excellent for group work although all must own the package. Sharing can be done via the internet or within a linked network environment. It could be used as a clearing house for information in a knowledge management system.

If you are a student, there is a student version at a reduced price that can be obtained through the appropriate educational software sites.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book writing, March 18, 2010

I have used it for outlining and shaping a book I am writing. The book proposal was accepted by the first publisher without revision. Not bad for a first time author! The editorial board commented on how well structured the outline was. I am now using it as I develop each of the sections and for managing the devilvery with JVCGantt
Brilliant, keeping me on track, saving me time.

I have used MindMagar for several years. I use it for brainstorm sessions, summarizing and note-taking, plus presenting in a non-linear format. Forget PowerPoint, little sticky notes and an overloaded brain. Become an experienced mind mapper too!

4.0 out of 5 stars MM8 vs. MM7, May 4, 2010
This review is from: Mindjet MindManager 8 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
There has always been a substantial amount of power and usability with MindSystems Mindmanager applications since X5. The big break throughs seemed to have occurred after verion 6 Pro. While I have enjoyed using the product as a lone adopter in my work as a senior technical implementation specialist and consultant working with Oracle EBS and Oracle PeopleSoft applications, I feel that the product while still good, became overly UI complicated with version 8. I tend to use the older version more than the newer. Ribbon menus are fine for some applications; but, personally, I feel that it has been a hinderance with version 8.

I'd like to say however, all around, MindManager 8 Pro (and its predecessor) are the cream of the crop when it comes to Mindmapping and Project Management. I have been able to use this extremely flexible tool in many different ways, from project management to development of training courses, and have even used it to document custom programs for PeopleSoft applications that do not lend themselves to a typical program printout.

MindManager is the uber-tool of my choice when I can use it ... and of course, its not an uber-tool unless you have fun using it! ...

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful Mind Mapping Application, January 10, 2010
This review is from: Mindjet MindManager 8 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I've tried quite a few different mind mapping applications and MindManager is the one that works best for me. It's full featured and has an intuitive interface. It's well-integrated with Microsoft Office. The task info feature is very useful for tracking task progress. MindManager is well-suited for brainstorming, planning, and organizing. There's a free trial version available for evaluation.

5.0 out of 5 stars No software could be better, May 4, 2010
This review is from: Mindjet MindManager 8 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
No matter the project or mental activity you are involved in. Whether personal or proffesional, there's nothing like mindjet to help you organize your ideas and share them or pass them to anyone. How else can you organize and present in such an appealing visual way. After presenting with mindmanager there's no excuse not to execute and make things happen. I can't thank this software enough. HUGE HUGE FAN

This review is from: Mindjet MindManager 8 [Old Version] (CD-ROM)
I have used this program for a few months to plan projects, outline reports, and outline business plans. I find myself spending way too much time forcing the bubbles and maps to behave properly. This has absolutely hindered my ability to get my thoughts on paper quickly. The bubbles do not align easily, and they behave in an erratic manner. The formatting features are not intuitive, so you will need to print out the user manual and refer to it frequently. And making your map look good is a long, tedious job. Concept is great, but the program is very subpar if you are looking to enhance, rather than frustrate, your creativity.
