Editorial Reviews

From the Artist

Hans Lundin’s musical history goes way back to 1964, when he was sixteen years old started his first band and after ten years playing with various other musicians, he had shaped an identity all his own as a musician and songwriter and went on to form Kaipa in 1974. Following the release of the self-titled Kaipa album and until 1982, the band had played well over 500 concerts and released five albums highly acclaimed by the national press and fans alike before fizzling out due to constant personal changes. With the amazing comeback album Notes From The Past, Kaipa suddenly stepped out of the shadows in 2002, bringing their folk music inspired progressive rock back into full blossom and with the album Keyholder in 2003, they were able to bring their music to an even higher dimension.

Kaipa’s music holds a unique position in the music scene, with their progressive rock coloured by the centuries-old Swedish choral and folk music traditions. The result is a timeless music, which is equally as valid today as it was 30 years ago and will continue to be so for years to come.

Later this year a CD box will be released including remastered versions of the three first Kaipa albums plus 2 CDs containing unreleased material and live recordings. Several never published songs from the original Kaipa demo recordings in the summer of 1974 will also be included.

Product Description

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first Kaipa album (originally released in 1975) Inside Out will be releasing two Kaipa albums this year. The brand new studio album Mindrevolutions, (their 8th studio album) is inviting you to another musical journey. With deep roots in the Swedish folk music tradition, Kaipa guides you through a landscape coloured by a myriad of influences, where the narrow path opens up into a highway and suddenly takes you up over the mountains soaring high above your daily life and consciousness. With Mindrevolutions, Kaipa once again prove that dream and reality and pain and joy are possible to unite in a musical way inside their unique music-landscape. The album contains 10 new songs with title track a 26 minute long mind-adventure.

The two original Kaipa members, Hans Lundin on keyboards & vocal and Roine Stolt of Flower Kings fame on guitars and vocal, are accompanied by Morgan Ågren (Zappa, Mats & Morgan) on drums, Jonas Reingold (Flower Kings, Karmakanic, The Tangent) on bass and the wondrous voices of Patrik Lundström (Ritual) and Aleena.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not at all two stars, September 14, 2005
This review is from: Mindrevolutions (Audio CD)
I just got my copy of this cd and after listening to it for the first time I must confess I was surprised and very disappointed with the only review it has so far in which a collegue from Texas is rating it two stars only because he doesn't like "female vocals in most rock situations" as he puts it...It is not fair at all. I agree with him though in regards to the music which I find very good, and I must say that I also find Aleena's vocals interesting and not at all disturbing . I will have to say that in order to compensate the too low two stars I am giving it 5 although after listening to it more times my rating could change slightly. Kaipa for years have been one of my favourite groups and I warranty you will not be disapointed by getting this cd. Go for it!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Roine Stolt is god, December 1, 2008
This review is from: Mindrevolutions (Audio CD)
I must admit up front that I'm not objective when it comes to Mr. Stolt.I first discovered him(by way of the Flower Kings)about a year ago,and have been mesmerized since by both his personal and creative explorations of prog music, plus that distinctively virtuosic guitar work. However, with that said,Stolt and Flower King fans alike, should immediately get this disc,as I find it to be Stolt's finest hour(actually the usual 70 plus minutes).Fitting, since Kaipa was his original band, ironic because he actually is "only" responsible for all the guitar work,a little percussion, and unnoticeable back. vocals.Doesn't matter,Kaipa co-originator, Hans Lundin, has written some gorgeous songs here, and shows himself to be a master producer ,allowing more room for Kaipa's state of the prog musicians to roam than he has in the past.Though this is Stolts' party, special mention must be made of drummer extaordinaire,Morgan Agren. It's easy to see why Zappa brought him into a few of his projects.Agren reminds me of a more subtle, though just as powerhouse,Alphonse Mouzon.Lastly, tho I usually hate this cliche, this is the rare disc you can stop at any track and enjoy. My personal faves are the epic title cut,and Timebomb-with it's vicious attack against "this man is made of steel,He's acting like a father, but behaving like a boy,He leads us to destruction, and it brings him power and joy"Finally, with the music swelling ,drummer Agren propels the band to a tumoltuous finale,as singers Patrick Lundstrom, and Lundins' daughter,Aleena, instruct us that"Black as oil this game-4 times to the end!Take that,Dubya
