Editorial Reviews

Review

"As I read, the old proverb kept playing in my head--'As a man thinketh, so is he.' Jamie's words are gold! Short enough to read throughout a busy day, but essential enough to not go without." ~ Tsh Oxenreider, founder of SimpleMom.net and author of Organized Simplicity

"This book reads like a conversation with a true friend--one who is at times upbeat and encouraging, at times disarmingly frank, and always humble and authentic, with her heart in the right place. Like a good massage, this book hurts just a little here and there (in all the right ways) and yet leaves you feeling soothed, refreshed and empowered." ~ Rachel DeMille, co-founder of Thomas Jefferson Education (TJEd.org)

"Mindset for Moms is filled with inspiring and refreshing nuggets of wisdom from a mother who, though still in the trenches, is already seasoned with experience." ~ Kat Lee, author of InspiredtoAction.com

About the Author

Jamie immersed herself in motherhood by adding all three of her kids to the family in less than three years. The ensuing challenges (and occasional chaos!) sent Jamie on the lookout for ways to parent with purpose and professionalism.

Jamie writes about intentional motherhood at SteadyMom.com and about home education at SimpleHomeschool.net. She is also the author of Steady Days: A Journey Toward Intentional, Professional Motherhood.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring for moms January 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I read this book in only two sittings because I was enjoying it so much. I do plan to go back and read it again little at a time as I think the ideas and tone of this book are timeless and will continue to encourage me in years to come. I really loved the short chapter format, though at times I was left wanting more, wishing the author had continued expounding on her thoughts. In the end though I felt the authors purpose was to inspire, not necessarily provide a manual for how to navigate motherhood and all the negative thoughts that surface. I finished the book feeling inspired and encouraged.

5.0 out of 5 stars So thankful for this book! January 29, 2012
By enl
Format:Kindle Edition
I purchased this book on a whim, desperate for some encouragment in my mothering journey.

What a breath of fresh air! Reading this book was seriously like throwing open a window and letting the spring air in. It's simply written, with not a lot of frills (perfect for busy moms like me). The chapters are short and completely manageable, but also deeply inspiring. I appreciate not being bogged down in facts or advice (or made to feel guilty), but encouraged and blessed (like speaking to an old friend). This book is life-changing in a positive, uplifting way I can appreciate.

Sometimes, all we need is a gentle nudge in the right direction, and this book did just that for me. I highly recommend it for all you moms out there; may it bless you as it did me.

What an amazing, inspiring book! I devoured it, alternately grinning my fool head off and sobbing into my coffee. "Mindset for Moms" has already given me a greatly improved outlook on motherhood, my family, my job, myself, and life in general. With the compassionate writing style familiar to followers of her blogs (SteadyMom.com and SimpleHomeschool.net), Ms Martin shares encouragement and her considerable wisdom with a weary world. While aimed primarily at mothers, this powerful, little book should be read (and reread) by everyone searching for joy in their day-to-day life. An absolute treasure!

This is a sweet and earnest book, and it does provide a nice short dose of something positive to read every day.

If you are new to the concept of creating a better life through the direction of your thoughts, I think this is a nice starting point.

If you are someone who has already been on a spiritual path for sometime, leave this one on the shelf, so to speak. It is for beginners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and Life-Changing... January 25, 2012
By Myah
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I feel that the mothering trend these days is to be "authentic". Authentic is good, but it often times becomes excessive and sends Moms into a downward spiral of complaining and wanting these days of mothering to pass. Jamie has a wonderful way of showing you how to embrace and view these days in a positive way. This book should be read by all mothers (and fathers!) who are in the trenches. It will transform your days with your children. This book has blessed our home!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed January 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Short enough to be read right away, even with a 2 year old and newborn but with enough information and impact to be totally worth the time. Jamie speaks right to the heart of moms in an honest and uplifting way. I felt better about my day just after reading part of it. The information is attainable but still makes a huge difference. What a wonderful read and just what I needed after a long day in the trenches. My children seemed much sweeter today even though they are the same people they were yesterday!

3.0 out of 5 stars good for non-working moms September 8, 2013

Some great tips here for stay at home moms who find their lives kinda boring. I'm a single full time working mom and needed some inspiration and energy to keep up. I found some here. But the author's constant reminder that she is a SAHM and homeschoolers got annoying after a while. Many of us don't have that kind of time and energy after a hard days work

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book! March 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just wanted to say that I SO enjoyed Mindset for Moms. I am one of those type people that is very "Type A" about...well, everything, it seems. I have 2 internationally adopted kids and am a brand-new SAHM with our second (our oldest is in school). I've really been struggling, lately, with my patience and wanting everything to be so perfect, which is hard, when staying at home with a 2 year old! Mindset for Moms has been SUCH an encouragement for me...to just stop and smell the roses! I ran through it really quick because I couldn't stop, and am about to begin a 30 day "slow down and enjoy life with these kiddos" project, which will include going back and reading one chapter of the book each morning.

Probably my favorite thing about the book is the short, succinct chapters. They make the book so easy to digest!

I shed many tears throughout this book - tears for the precious time I often waste with my kids, worrying about things that don't matter while NOT spending enough time on the things that do matter. I've still got a LONG way to go, and plenty of maintenance if I ever get there (30+ years is quite some time to undo learned habits!), but this book has been a huge blessing to me.

I highly recommend it!
