5.0 out of 5 stars the best start a band could have for their debut album, August 30, 2003

I first heard Poor Old Lu doing a song for the browbeat unplugged alternative album, and it was quite refreshing. When this album finally came out months later, I put this on repeat and probably drove my friends nuts. The songs are wonderful, and kinda reminiscent of Cannonball by the breeders in a way, but for more inventive and great after many listens. All Pretty For TV, It's allright, and Crucial just shine, and I know that I've heard alot of the songs of this album played in the background of various mtv shows like the real world. It's a very strong debut and by far my favorite of all their albums. If you don't have the album, get it while you can. It's getting harder to come by these days. All the copies are getting snatched up.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love Poor Old Lu, you need this album!, March 28, 1999

"Mindsize" is quite different from Poor Old Lu's later albums, but still has all the qualities that make them great. My favorites are the lighter kind of pop "All Pretty For the T.V." and the darker almost trudging sounds of "In Love With the Greenery." Scott's lyrics are as brilliant as ever, as demonstrated by possibly the most quoted line from any Poor Old Lu album, "And the Son will shine, and the reign won't fall", from the beautiful lullaby-like final track, "Shine."

5.0 out of 5 stars Poor Old Lu - Mindsize, August 20, 2010

This album is by the Christian themed band Poor Old Lu. This album is circa 1994, and is a GREAT listen!!!!! This band is SO VERY unique almost akin to the cure in the originality and diversity of their sound. The music is diverse, but primarily old school funky alternative (NOT Chili Peppers sounding though). A lot of raw sounding wah-wah! The only possible drawback to this band/album is that though the music is diverse the singer is a one trick pony. Scott Hunter's voice stays the same at all times. However, his style is totally different from ANYONE that I have ever heard, and if you like the authenticity and emotion of his voice as much as I do, then you will be refreshed by his voice instead of becoming bored with it. The lyrics aren't preachy and the "Christianity" of this band is mostly obscure and brought out in abstract ways. The lyrics are beautifully written and soul moving none the less. Another amazing aspect of this album is that if I remember correctly mostly all band members (if not all) were teenagers at the time of this recording!!!! If you are looking for a totally original band that was way ahead of their years, this album is for you.
