4.0 out of 5 stars Decent, if mentally exhausting, game January 6, 2014

This application provides dozens of different tests for different aspects of concentration, reaction time, and memory. The app keeps a record of your past performance on each and provides a grade of your performance against its standard. This means Mind Games Pro provides you with a comparison against a general scale and the ability to see changes in performance from one test to the next.

Each test lasts only a few minutes. It seems like this will be helpful as a way to get a mental shift and "clear the cobwebs" during long periods. (I would probably be better served to head out to the gym and don't always have the time.)

Research has shown that you can improve brain function (and even its structure) with mental exercise. I can't say this application will improve your mind. However, I am comfortable in suggesting that it will provide greater benefits than shooting birds at pigs.

Scans with multiple security software tools didn't reveal any issues with this program and it is delightfully free from any nagging ads or roadblocks that can only be relieved with an in-app purchase. Previous versions, including the version that is *always* free do contain adware. However the "Pro" version has these "features" disabled.

This is really very good game, one of the best of a kind. Today it is free, but IT IS NOT FREE OF THE ADS:
AdMob
AdSense
Amazon Mobile Ads.
Google Analytics is in it too.

I do not understand that. Where are the limits? I have many free applications without anything of a spyware and this is paid, expensive one.

Overall, I recommend this application. There are Admob in the Hangout, Gmail and Google Search too...

4.0 out of 5 stars For those concerned... January 6, 2014

I actually had bought this app when it was on sale in the Google Play Store. That version has the ad components left in as well, presumably the developers were too lazy to remove them. But since I played it with its internet permission denied I couldn't really tell; please read other user reviews to check if the ads have really been deactivated.

I downloaded this Amazon free app of the day just to check & compare, and neither my virus scanner TrustGo nor Malwarebytes detected anything sinister. I used to have Avast and Addons Detector but personally I think there were too many false positives so I stopped using them. When Avast said something was PUP (Potentially Unwanted Program) instead of saying malware outright, quite often I found it was overreacting. Of course that's just my take on it, and anyone concerned with their privacy etc should examine the apps' permissions & activities themselves.

Now back to the app itself: its ok but nothing special. I certainly don't think it's worth the regular price of &4.99, but the &0.99 I paid for it was acceptable. If you're interested in this sort of "mental exercises", check it out while it's free. Paying &4.99 however is definitely not recommended unless of course you have money to burn.

2.0 out of 5 stars Am disappointed for the price July 5, 2013

After reading other reviews, I thought this would be more interesting. Yes it has 17? games, but many are very similar, and all use the same set of what seems like 50 or so graphics/images. Not very sophisticated. Can't see playing this every day as they suggest, it gets boring really quickly. I expected a bit more variety and sophistication for the price. I will probably delete this in a few months.

I'm not sure what Avast is picking this up but it flagged it on my device- looking at the permissions I can't see why except that it contains ad add-ons that are not disabled in this free pro version. This has happened before with the FAOTD and I've gone back later in the day after everyone reviews and the developer has put up a new version.

The game itself is fun, I love a puzzle game- but not as much as I hate ads and I get enough ads in my life, I don't want them in my games too. I can't even give this game a good shot because it should be ad free.

Be careful, always, about what you put on your devices. Thank you.

Happy New Year!

3.0 out of 5 stars All But One August 28, 2013

I liked Mind Games Pro and thought it compared well with the more-advertised (and expensive) "Lumosity" except for one game. What I didn't like was a game called Abstraction. The player was presented with a word or two-word phrase and asked to choose whether that was concrete or abstract. Admittedly the English language is tricky, but simply consulting a dictionary would indicate that "icon" (in the sense of "a representation of a sacred personage .... painted usually on a wood surface") or "sloth" ( in the sense of "any of several slow-moving, arboreal tropical American edentates") can be 'concrete' as well as the 'abstract' assumed by the game's producers. This is just sloppy writing and I found at least two instances every time I played the game. I simply skip it now and play others that don't seem to have those defects, but it leaves a sour taste.

Mind Games Pro is essentially a collection of 19 different mini-games, each aiming to stimulate your mind in a different way. The different mini-games ramp up in difficulty as you make progress. This combined with the sheer variety add a lot to the game's overall replay value. The pace can pick up quickly, and it can get quite additive!

The developer claims the game doesn't contain any ads. I can confirm that I did not encounter any ads while playing. However, the app itself contains the following software modules commonly associated with ads: AdMob, AdSense and Amazon Mobile Ads. Since there is a free version of this game with ads, it could be that the developer chose to deactivate rather than remove the advertising modules - I am not sure. Again, I didn't see any ads while playing.

You can play through the game as "guest" or set up a player name, which allows you to upload your scores and compare them with the online scoreboard. There's also the requisite link to developer's other apps and games. These are probably the reasons for the game's required permissions for network access. The game runs without any problem under airplane mode, which is a plus for both usability (when flying) and privacy (no network access).

The graphics and sound are nice, but not super flashy. I thought some of the sound effects might get a bit annoying after a while, but you can just turn down the volume or mute it if needed. Very user-friendly user interface - very easy learning curve. I also didn't encounter any weird crashes or errors while playing.

I checked the Google Play store, and this is indeed the latest ad-free version (v 1.6.1). This is refreshing since a lot of times, the Amazon appstore version of an app would lag behind the Google Play store version.
