From Booklist
Follett, a prolific English writer as yet little known this side of the water, has excellently reworked a venerable plot, the old story of the open-minded young folks who discover that their great, repressive society is not the whole cosmos and that it has an awful secret: to wit, there is something outside of it! In spite of the plot's hoariness (which may inspire some to sarcasm), as you read on, you discover highly literate writing and superior characterization that make the book quite satisfactory, intelligent entertainment. You end up hoping that more of Follett's work (other than his scripts for the TV show Blake's Seven) will be made available in the U.S. soon. Roland Green
