Underrated CD,

Mindy McCready left her previous record label BNA back in 1999 after her album I'M NOT SO TOUGH flopped, it was over creative differences. Later in 2000 she signed with Capitol. The song "Scream" was leaked, the first single, long before the album came out. The song didn't catch on with radio unfortunately, it's a monster ballad that she sings with conviction and passion. The album was slated to have 11 songs, with two that did not make the cut. "Why We Love" and "Sacrifice", two great ballads that should have been on. Instead they worked on the album again and before it was released, she recorded two new songs, one which was the next single. "Maybe, Maybe Not" was a song written by fellow country singer Mila Mason (who also has her own version out now) which is a fun bubbly song that had a great video too. Once again failed to capture anyone's attention at CMT or country radio. A last ditch attempt was when they released the uptempo, tongue in cheek song "Lips Like Yours" which is a great song, but went nowhere. It's too bad the album didn't receive more attention, because it's some of the best music she's made. The other new song she recorded was "Be With Me", which should have been a single, a nice midtempo song about devotion. She covered Chely Wright's "The Fire", and gave it her own style. "Tremble" is the best ballad on the album, it should have been a single, it's just a great song that would have exploded at country radio. The ballad "Lovin Your Man" is a really great country song about being the other woman, the one the man cheats on his wife with. It's a great song. Other favorites include "If I Feel Your Hand". The only song that I didn't care for really was the Phil Vassar penned "Don't Speak", but it's still alright. The album is great, so check it out, you don't know what you're missing.

McCready on Fire!,

I've always liked Mindy's albums. She has one of the greatest voices in country music today. This album, in particular, shows the world how well McCready can sing. She has a voice on the same level of Martina McBride. She shows off her vocal talents and opera training on the track "Tremble", a song co-written by Holly Lamar, a co-writer of the smash hit "Breathe" sung by Faith Hill. "Tremble" is along the same lines as "Breathe", but done in a more haunting, seductive way. The great thing about this album is the variety of songs. More than any other Mindy album, this one contains the most variety of different types of tunes. There's the latin influenced "I Just Want Love" that makes you want to get up and dance. There is the ballad "If I Feel Your Hand" about how one feels when seeing an ex-boyfriend. If you're looking for some fun tunes, there are plenty here: "Lips Like Yours", "You Get To Me", and the current single with attitude "Maybe, Maybe Not". But as Mindy has said, she likes to sing songs with meaning. Songs like "Scream" and "Lovin' Your Man" dive into complex issues of the heart. And there's the ballad "Be With Me" about unconditional love. Whatever mood, whatever type of music you like, there's something on this album for you. This is perhaps, the best album McCready has released to date. I hope it is not her last, as she seems to get better every time.

Good Album from a struggling singer,

I remember Mindy's first CD, which was just awesome. Then she just kinda disappeared from videos and radio. This is a strong effort to return to the scene. She never quite blows me away (except maybe on "Scream"), but it's a fun cd with some really cute songs. "Maybe, Maybe Not" and "Lips like Yours" are the most fun, with "Lovin' Your Man" and "Don't Speak" have a haunting quality that just makes me want to learn all the words and sing it for my friends. But "Scream" is by far the best song on the CD; the lyrics are to the point ("Lips" gets almost lost in all the commentary) and Mindy puts the right emotion into, i can almost see her yelling at the rain. It's definitely worth the money to buy this CD. Although the difference in the lyrics for "The Fire" from Chely Wright's has been really puzzling me. Anyway.... Given more time and support (this album seems more like a first album than her fourth) Mindy should develop more of the power that is so respected in female singers these days.

Solid Album!,

Mindy McCready was plagued with problems with her record label, after they couldn't mutually agree on decisions regarding her third album IM NOT SO TOUGH. She signed with Capitol after leaving BNA, and this was the result of that partnership. This album took a while to make, and was pushed back after many times. The first single "Scream" failed to make an impact on radio, which is a shame, its a torch ballad about all the pain and pent up anger being released. The second single "Maybe, Maybe Not" is a playful song where Mindy considers rekindling an old flame. "Maybe, Maybe not" and "Be With Me" were songs that were recorded after the album was already done. "Maybe, Maybe Not" is a nice song but it doesn't fit the flow of this album, the same can be said for "I Just Want Love" (although an excellent song), and her cover of Chely Wright's "The Fire". Two songs were left out, the two ballads "Why We Love" and "Sacrifice", its a shame those are great ballads. Other highlights include the power ballad "Tremble", where she shows her vocal training payed off, its a surefire hit. "If I Feel Your Hand" is a beautiful song about wanting to rekindle an old love, but being afraid at the same time. "Lovin Your Man" tells the relationship of cheating from the side of the cheater, and how she regrets what she is doing to her friend, but how she can't help it. Very powerful stuff. Overall MINDY MCCREADY is a great album to listen to, and worth the wait, so give it a try!

Honestly, I don't know why this album isn't getting more attention! This album contains incredible songs sung by an incredible voice. My favorite songs are "Maybe, Maybe Not," and "Lips Like Yours." Here is my description of every song on this album:1)Maybe, Maybe Not - The best song on this album! Mindy's voice 2)Lips Like Yours - The second best song on the album! It's very 3)Lovin' Your Man - I like it better now that I've heard it a 4)Be With Me - Great song! It has an upbeat tempo that keeps you 5)The Fire - I really like this song. It's sung with passion, 6)Scream - I love this song. Like "The Fire," it's sung with 7)I Just Want Love - A different kind of song, but in a good way. 8)Dont Speak - This is a really nice song. It's has a sharper 9)If I Feel Your Hand - Not one of the catchiest songs on the 10)You Get To Me - Nice song. Not one of the most memorable 10)Tremble - A song sung with real passion. A wonderful In conclusion this album is wonderful. When I first listened to it, I thought that it was going to be a huge hit. I just don't know why this album isn't getting more attention - I like this album much better than her older ones.

After a rather unsuccessful album Mindy is determined to get back on the charts with her latest release: Mindy McCready. Mindy McCready is a good album with a great choice of songs. The first song "Maybe, Maybe Not" is a fun, cute type of song that Mindy is known for singing. "Be With Me" is a nice, soothing beautiful song that Mindy hasn't really done before. "Scream" is the best on the album with such a powerful, haunting progression to it. All in all, this is a great album, one of Mindy's best.

Mindy is Back,
By
This review is from: Mindy McCready (Audio CD)
Mindy McCready returns with her self titled album, her first for Capitol records, who she signed with in 2000. It has been two and a half years since her last album, on BNA, I'M NOT SO TOUGH, which was poorly received and failed to promote any hit single since the record label and Mindy could not come to an understanding, and ultimately decided to part ways. The album opens with a quirky upbeat song Maybe, Maybe Not which finds her contemplating to call back an old flame and try to rekindle that fire, or to just stay alone. Mindy, who said she would never record a cheating song, broke the rule on this album with the ballad Lovin Your Man, which finds Mindy on the cheating side of the affair, and shows Mindy in her most honest delivery as she recounts how she cannot help loving him. Vocally on this album Mindy has improved, and is using her opera trained vocals. Case and point, on the best ballad in my opinion on the cd, titled Tremble, a song in which Mindy uses her octaves to their fullest extent and soars on this beautiful ballad, which is a sure fire hit if released. Other honest deliveries come from songs such as If I Feel Your Hand, which is a beautiful song about lost love, and dealing with what was lost. Mindy also covers the Chely Wright song The Fire, which appeared on Chely's SINGLE WHITE FEMALE. Mindy does a great job on some uptempos on this one too, such as the quirky and fun Lips Like Yours, or the upbeat You Get To Me. Both are sure fire hits. The CD was originally to be titled Scream, after the first single which failed to make an impact on radiowaves, but its one of her most compelling and honest ballads about letting go of the anger at the end of a relationship. Other highlights include Be With Me, Don't Speak, an the ltin flavored I Just Want Love. Overall she did not disapoint with this CD, and it was well worth the wait, after many release dates pushed back, Mindy is back now, and hopefully radio is willing to give her a chance to prove how talented she really is.

I am a huge Mindy McCready fan and I was just dying to get my hands on this CD! It's a very happy, fun, upbeat album. I think what I like about Mindy's music is that you can have it on with kids around and not only do you not have to worry about any off color lyrics, but the kids really take to the music (as do adults). It's happy music! One thing I noticed on this album was that there were a couple places in certain songs where her voice sort of faded out-almost like she wasn't into it when she sang it. Either that, or the people who edited the record faded her voice out too much or something. It seems to me that maybe the music's too loud and it's over-powering her voice in spots. Her voice didn't seem as strong as it did on previous albums. Even so, Mindy has an absolutely beautiful voice! I can't figure out why Scream or Maybe, Maybe Not aren't #1 on the charts. They are definitely worthy! Capitol Nashville needs to get this girl out there to be seen and heard! My overall opionion of this album is that it's a good one. If I had it to do over, I'd buy it again. It's got a different sound than her previous albums. It's Mindy McCready with a new twist. Buy it!

Mindy's SELF TITLED NEW ALBUM MISSES SOME BEATS!,

After such wonderful songs such as GUY'S DO IT ALL THE TIME, WHAT IF I DO, OTHER SIDE OF THIS KISS, and others, Mindy can definitely pick the right material. Her first album on CAPITOL RECORDS is very hit and miss. The opening track, MAYBE, MAYBE NOT is a winner as is SCREAM and THE FIRE (also recorded by Chely Wright) but the other 8 tracks are just simply middle of the road.....I am hoping Mindy goes back to her roots on her next album and does another winner! This fan knows she can do it and hope she does!

People who gave this 5 stars must not be familiar with Mindy's much better former albums. This album is O.K., but only O.K. Mindy's first two were awesome, the third solid. This album, her fourth, is definitely her weakest. The bottom line is that the songs are just plain forgettable. None of them, except the respectable, Lips Like Yours, stick in my head. A bunch of songs from Mindy's other albums stick in my head. There are a few covers here: Maybe, Maybe Not was done better by Mila Mason, and Fire was done better by Chely Wright. Mindy kinda lost her way on this one, then had a bunch of personal problems. That's a bummer, cuz she is a good singer, one of my favorite, just not on this album.
