From Library Journal
This moving, thoughtful story of a friendship between Israeli journalist Aharon Barnea and high-level Palestinian military leader Salah Ta'mari, held captive in Israel for almost two years following the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982, penetrates both sides' propaganda. A close and trusting relationship, based on mutual understanding of Palestinian and Jewish culture, developed between the two men during the first phase of Ta' mari's solitary imprisonment. This important work, which emphasizes Ta'mari's commitment to political rather than military struggle and to eventual coexistence, offers greater insights than other personal discussions published recently, including Uri Avnery's My Friend, My Enemy ( LJ 3/15/87) and David K. Shipler's Arab and Jew (Penguin, 1987). Elizabeth R. Hayford, Assoc. Coll. of the Midwest, Chicago
