I ordered this product for my 10 year old daughter a few months ago. By mistake, the company sent the wrong product, but happily corrected the mistake and sent me a new one when they knew of the error. They're a good company to work with. My daughter had a lot of fun with the kit - she loves fossils and was happy to have a kit to dig for them. The medium is sandy, so it's relatively easy to find them, no hammering or frustration involved. I would recommend both the company and the kit.

I recently gave this set to my homeschooled children, ages 10 and 8, and they had a wonderful time with it! We have been studying prehistory, evolution, fossils, and more - this kit made a wonderful, hands-on addition to those studies. The enclosed information book is clear and concise, with great pictures, so my children were easily able to identify the fossils they carefully excavated from the kit. We went a little further -, by gluing the specimens to a sheet of mat board (poster board) and then carefully labeling them.

I would highly recommend this kit as a fantastic learning tool!

Edited to add; When we originally used the kit, my children were a bit disappointed that we seemed to be missing a fossil specimen. I contacted the Dr. Cool company, and asked about purchasing an extra fossil. Instead, they generously sent several great additions to our collection, along with a couple of fantastic crystal specimens! I will definitely be buying more of their products in the future!

The item was totally cool, a brick of sand contained in a aluminum pan with 10 fossils embedded in the sand. We had lots of fun unearthing the fossils. Most fossils were unpolished but one had been polished and was quite pretty. Expect to have sand all over the floor unless you put the whole thing in a larger container. The tools included were adequate to do the digging (but a plastic letter opener worked better). Unfortunately, the "brick" had been broken in several large pieces during shipping. Considering the amber kit when my child is older.
