David Mead's sophomore release is a bit of a departure from his 1999 release, The Luxury of Time. Mine and Yours showcases Mead's maturity and growth as a songwriter; the music is more focused and intimate. Whereas The Luxury of Time had a very big sound, Mine and Yours focuses more on Mead's gorgeous voice and addictive melodies. Recorded after Mead's move from Nashville to New York City, Mine and Yours managed to capture the city's elegance and timelessness in several of the songs.Almost every song on the release has the potential to be a classic. "Figure of Eight", "Comfort", and "Mine and Yours" are gems that prove Mead's songwriting genius. "Venus Again", "Echoes of a Heart", and "Girl on the Roof" will get into your head and stay there. "Flaming Angel", "Only in the Movies" and "No One Left to Blame" are gorgeous, haunting pieces. Mead's classic influences make his releases catchy to everyone's ears. But what makes him stand out against the rest are his amazing vocal and songwriting talents, and his music's independence and accessibility. This stuff is so good, it doesn't need to be labeled as pop or whatever to be appreciated. Listen to David Mead's Mine and Yours -- and you'll just know it's superb music.

Pure Pop Pleasure,

Wow! I was beginning to believe that the Classic Pop I grew up loving (The Beatles, Badfinger, XTC, The Outfield, etc.) was dead and buried, supplanted forever by Heavy Metal Rap and Teenybopper [music]. That was until I heard David Mead's incredible new album "Mine and Yours". I overheard it in a bookstore and I could not stop tapping my ... foot! "Girl On The Roof" is, without a doubt, one of the catchiest, most infectious songs I have ever heard. I defy the listener to sit still through this little masterpiece! You'll find that each of these songs is a gem, lovingly crafted and beautifully executed. Mr. Mead has a exquisite, ethereal voice with amazing range. Other highlights include the title track, "No One Left To Blame", "Elodie", and "Figure of Eight". Take a chance and check this out. It's the REAL DEAL!

I agree with the other reviewers about elements of McCartney. However, it's not his best elements. Think Monkberry Moon Delight or Uncle Albert. It's pretty. The production is excellent, but the songs themselves consist of simplistic chords and melodies. He has an impressive voice with a nice style, but the songs are just so soft. Good for the easy listening crowd and kids.

I had the fortune of catching David live last nite as the opening act for JOE JACKSON!!!! I was not the least bit disappointed. He could have done another hour on his own. Immediately after Joe's set ended I rushed to the front of the club & purchased "BOTH" David's CD's. Spent the nite listening to them as a wind down from the frenzy of a spectacular event. If you get a chance to see this guy------GO !!!!!!!!!!

David Mead works in a style of music that, in years gone by, might have been topping the charts. Catchy melodies, strong production, and a beautiful voice should all be a recipe for success, but in this day and age of fragmented listening tastes and corporate radio playlists, Mead has not found a wide audience for his craft. And that's a shame, because "Mine and Yours" (like his debut album, "The Luxury of Time") is a very strong set of well-crafted pop/rock that would surprise a lot of people who think that music for adults has to be glossy or brainless. On his debut, "Luxury of Time", Mead seemed to want to touch every stylistic base, succeeding at most of the music styles he tried his hand at. "Mine and Yours" is not as eclectic - on this album, he seems more content to remain in a melodic, mostly down-tempo style. It may not have all the high points that "Luxury" had, but it results in a more cohesive listening experience. Mead is more confident in his writing and singing abilities here, contributing gems like the pretty "All I Want to Do", the bouncy "Girl on the Roof", and the strong title track. Likable, enjoyable, and definitely worth your time. If you enjoy pop music in the vein of the Beatles or Paul McCartney, then David Mead will be a most pleasant discovery.

It wasn't until recent did I start listening to David Mead's music. For the longest time I have followed the crowd and listened to what everyone else considered great music and never gave thought to what I considered great music. It was David Mead's, "Comfort", that drew me into his second album, Mine and Yours. While his music is a contemporary blend of some legendary influences such as Elvis Costello and John Lennon, he has also created a unique style that has the ability to influence many young aspiring musicians. His songwriting fits the contemporary style framed by a classic touch, and supported by a strong voice that represents honesty, reality, intelligence and cunningness. Before I bought his music, I took the liberty to learn more about him and his music at www.click2music.com/davidmead . You can hear two of his latest songs, "Comfort" and "Mine and Yours", and read his biography. Who knows maybe after visiting this site, you'll find yourself a new favorite artist. I'd love to know what you think, write me.

Mead's Second Album Is Strong,

If you've heard Mead's first album, the first thing you may notice upon hearing this one is that his "sound" has really filled out. You'll hear hauntingly beautiful female back singers, watery sounds from the synth, echo, etc. I'm wondering if David spent a little too much time in the studio. David Mead has so much talent. The charm of his dynamic voice with just a piano (like the last tune on his previous record) works so well. On his latest work, it sometimes feels that there is a struggle between the full studio sound and his vocals. Aside from this quibble, Mead has put together a collection of songs that are each distinct and more mature than before.

I have just revisited this superb album and 'Indiana' (from 2004) after listening to his latest 2009 release 'Almost and Always'. I think it's criminal that David Mead still isn't phemonenally successful and that he's been dropped from major labels RCA and then Nettwerk. His 1999 debut 'The Luxury of Time' isn't even in print anymore.
The man's got a lovely set of pipes (Paul McCartney comparisons for better or for worse, nothwithstanding) that hovers over the listener's consciousness even as his sweet ballads wash over you. While his lyrics are melancholic, his melodies are quietly uplifting, like a silver lining behind a dark cloud. Gems like 'No One Left To Blame' and 'Girl On The Roof' have such irresistible hooks it's impossible to get it out of your head, not that you're likely to complain when they're such addictive melodies. (The little nugget that the latter song is based on a suicide incident doesn't make it any darker). 'Mine And Yours' is the kind of classic pop album that you play from start to finish without skipping any tracks and that you'll want to press the repeat button after it ends. Please get it before it goes out of print.

An incredible evocation of Paul McCartney, Nick Lowe, Squeeze, Badfinger and more, this is one of the best pop albums in years. It's a great conversation starter, too. I was playing it in a store in Silver Lake and it turned out one of my customers was the guitarist on some of the tracks. I played it at my cart in Santa Monica and it caught the attention of a passerby, who is a friend of Mead's. Good news: he's apparently making a third album. I can't wait.
