Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book is among the best of the various US state and regional guides to minerals and their localities. Arizona minerals are of popular interest, and Arizona mineral specimens are especially apparent in collections and museums throughout the world. The authors, respected academic mineralogists, have directed this expanded update of two widely used earlier editions to the needs of the professional geologist and the serious mineral collector." —Choice "This handsome edition, like its predecessors, is the definitive source of information on Arizona minerals. The size of this exceptional work is more than double that of the first and second editions. . . . Essential for anyone interested in Arizona's minerals, from the novice to the professional geologist." —Arizona Mineral Resources "The section of color plates of 60 showy specimens is in perfect color registration, and the extensive bibliography makes this a mineralogy sourcebook for any person or any collection with an interest in the subject." —Books of the Southwest

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable tool for interested geologists, November 25, 2008
This review is from: Mineralogy of Arizona (Paperback)
This is an incredible book for anyone interested in the mineralogy of Arizona. While it may be too technical for some amateur geologists, most individuals will be able to appreciate what this book has to offer. Not only does it have a listing of every mineral ever recorded in Arizona, but it tells what the mineral is and the exact locations where they were found. Also included are maps and discussions of the state's geology.

But I will return to my previous statement that it may be too technical for some. If you are looking for a simple guide to Arizona, look elsewhere. But if you are looking for one of the most extensive mineral books for the state, look no further.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, November 6, 2007
This review is from: Mineralogy of Arizona (Paperback)
I had expected a book useful to the lay person. This book is probably only of use to professional geologists or people highly educated in mineralolgy. I had hoped for a book that would educate me on the wonderful minerals that occure with such abundance in Arizona. This wasn't it.
