The Review
Book includes a vocabulary page to accompany each story, Series of stories with room for illustrations to be added: Ming-Shu and Her Cat, Time For Fishing Fun, Ming-Shu Visits Mr Lee's Farm, Nine-In-One or One-In-Nine, and discussion questions at the end of each story. Each of the stories is sure to appeal to children.
Writer Danes is a curriculum developer and writer for English Language Schools in Taiwan, she puts her expertise and experience to good use in this little 42 page work for children. The four tales are long enough for children to become involved, while short enough to read at a setting.
I especially like the notion of allowing children space to add their own illustrations to the book. The vocabulary and discussion pages are a added plus for classroom teachers and home use alike.
This is a read to book for the younger set ages 3-6, Vocabulary used is such that most youngsters in the 6-8 group should be able to read for themselves with a little explanation of the vocabulary pages. Discussion pages are a added plus for helping children nail down some of their thoughts regarding each of the stories.
This is a book I would be happy to use in my own classroom.
This is a good sturdy book with hardcover, and good quality paper pages. Happy to recommend.

ESL the creative way, October 21, 2004
This review is from: Ming-Shu and Her Cat and Other Stories (You Draw Book) (Hardcover)
Instead of "Look, Spot, Look," Taiwanese children can read about Ming-Shu playing with her cat, going fishing with her Grandfather Yi, and visiting the farm and zoo. We also meet little sister Mei-Mei, whose warm relationship with Ming-Shu charms and delights. As a non-Taiwanese adult, this reviewer found Ming-Shu's stories charming and educational about another culture and yet strikingly universal. As a bonus and the "hook" for the book, illustrating the stories is a fun activity that will sharpen children's brains and make their imaginations soar.
