It makes a whole lot of noise as expected, but the picture is misleading. You do NOT get zaps down the side of the baton. There's two contacts on the tip for zapping people or making noise (with the flashlight which is admirably bright) and another two on either side of the baton. If you don't touch BOTH (i.e. actually grab the baton with your hand) you don't get any shock. Charges up easily with the (very) short cord provided. Safety switch in the back prevents accidents.

As for use...the NOISE is scary and pretty much makes everyone jump. Zapping them with the end hurts but is not about to stun anyone. Tested on a ~110 pound woman into her chest/stomach area and a 5 second zap pissed her off but had no disabling effect. Grabbing the baton doesn't hurt much at all - more akin to the trick gum packs that zap you. If you want something scary looking and sounding that's enough to deter someone this works nicely. If you want something you could defend yourself with, this is NOT what you want.

As a former Marine and Police Officer, I give this product a total thumbs up as a non-leathel form of personal protection. BUT..DO NOT LEAVE IT WHERE ANY CHILDREN MAY GET AHOLD OF IT!! They should be at least in Jr or Senior High and trained to use it at a self defense class. I bought it for my wife to use on her walk-abouts and taught her how to use it.

I like this item a lot. I needed it to scare away any wild animals near our back yard. It's pretty dark out there and don't want our dogs to be in danger. The reason I gave it only 4 stars is that it doesn't come with a detachable wrist band. Still, I'm very happy with this product. and the price was very reasonable too.

Good stun baton. No batteries needed having a rechargeable one already installed. It has three safety features. A power switch to turn on and off, a safety button to arm or disarm and a trigger button on top to release the voltage. It's a good idea to practice with it and keep it close in case it's ever needed.

After ordering 2 different brands and styles (none of which were batons) that I had to return. I'm now pleased that I had 2 return these two because this third one is a charm! It it very light, yet very well put together, solid and professiona! It has a great feeling, velvety hard rubber covering, a very bright light, double prong metal strips that slightly stick out of about a half inch recessed tip where the light is. The double prongs shoot a loud burst along with two side by side jolts of bright electricity as well as two 5" metal strips on either side starting from the top going down on either side that are also electrified (although you can"t see the electric jolts like you can at the top prongs and I wasn't going to test this! So if someone tries to grab it, they also will get the shock of their life! The handle has a grip, molded like a gun, so it's a very solid grip! Also has a wrist band and it fits inside the holster nicely the holster which fits on a belt. I like the fact that it's not overly long and it is straight, from top to bottom. Can easily be hidden. A gadgeteers delight! The only drawback is that the is no overcharge circuit, so they tell you not to charge more than 7 hours and when you test it, press button for one second as it drains the battery quickly. Go figure! But I've been doing my one second test a few times a night for about a month and the charge still seems strong!

I used this baton to ward off an attacker without taking his life. It works very well, and will help an attacker find religion. As for the four legged attackers, it’s an educational experience just to see the fire works.

If you want to have something that will even intimidate only with how it sounds, this is the perfect weapon for a person especially a woman or teen who does not like guns.

I have the 18" version and it works perfect, I got this one for my sister for Christmas and it won't work at all. I got it fully charged and the stun fired a couple of times, but the flashlight never worked and now it doesn't fire at all. I think the one I got is defective. It won't do anything.

useless in less you want to provide your attacker with an instrument to beat you.
In a struggle, this thing would break apart instantly.
This is no "law-enforcement strength" stun gun. You'd have to hold it on the person, hopefully with skin contact, for seconds.
Who has that much time if they're being attacked?
Answer: No one. Don't be fooled into feeling at all protected with this product.

Buy it - I did for my wife, as a matter of fact buy two. I just re-ordered a second baton for my car. I have tested by leaving the light on for over an hour and the stun feature still lit up like a champ. Just blasting the charge will give an assailant something to think about, it gives quite a noise. Their customer service is top notch, they work hard at keeping their stellar reputation. Thank you!
