Looks and sounds scary...but falls short in effectiveness.

It makes a whole lot of noise as expected, but the picture is misleading. You do NOT get zaps down the side of the baton. There's two contacts on the tip for zapping people or making noise (with the flashlight which is admirably bright) and another two on either side of the baton. If you don't touch BOTH (i.e. actually grab the baton with your hand) you don't get any shock. Charges up easily with the (very) short cord provided. Safety switch in the back prevents accidents.
As for use...the NOISE is scary and pretty much makes everyone jump. Zapping them with the end hurts but is not about to stun anyone. Tested on a ~110 pound woman into her chest/stomach area and a 5 second zap pissed her off but had no disabling effect. Grabbing the baton doesn't hurt much at all - more akin to the trick gum packs that zap you. If you want something scary looking and sounding that's enough to deter someone this works nicely. If you want something you could defend yourself with, this is NOT what you want.
