Mini-Best? BIG MISTAKE! If they were to create a REAL MINI-Best, they could've put at least 5 original songs instead of just 3 original songs (Jump, Panama, Top of the World) and hell, those aren't even Halen's best? And for the karaoke songs, they could've put em on a WHOLE compliation of Karaoke Van Halen songs. SHEESH! Did the band really do this?! I think NOT. The record company should be shot for making this F****** OVERPRICED FOR ONLY 5 DAMN SONGS. Import or not, it's BEYOND a waste of cash.

True, as a best of set, this is, well, not, but as a karaoke fan who is tired of finding crappy version of Van Halen songs on poorly done karaoke discs, it doesn't get any better than this. Jump is one of those songs I've heard many karaoke versions of, and they are all terrible, even the version recorded by the best karaoke maker there is, SoundChoice. No one can play the keyboard part like Eddie, and no emulation has even come close to getting it right. Top of the World is the same story. Even Soundchoice's version is pretty darn bad, but the real deal is impossible to beat. So, if you're a singer who wants some backing tracks or a guitarist/bassist/drummer trying to find a good version of these tunes to jam with, this cd is perfect for you. Otherwise, if you're just a casual VH fan and really want the best of, pick up the regular BEST OF release and the upcoming volume two this summer (2004). My review is based entirely on the fact that as far as karaoke tracks go, this is what true fans will want. I only wish Van Halen would put out an entire album of backing tracks to their complete greatest hits album. I'd love to hear what Eddie and Mikey are playing while Sammy's singing his heart out. I'm sure gettin' a lot more work done - guitar solos, too - but, DAMMIT, still thinkin' about HER all day long! Not the happiest thoughts, no, not the amazing lollipop buzz from before, just a sour hollow injured recollection. Right out of grasp. Like ALWAYS! Contact is all that it takes to change your life, to lose your place in time. Not that SHE cares. Not in the least, currents peregrinate - for HER. Not me. I stay put. Always have. Loser me to fall so fast, fall so deep. Some kind of alien waits for the opening, simply pulls a string. What a cute couple! No! What am I going through this for? As if volition has much to do with anything! And then you sense a change, all your dreams are strange. Love comes walkin' in, I never requested ANY of this! And, betrayal, love comes walkin' OUT. Right out the window! My, that's quite a drop I'm dropping there. Is it KICKS for ya? Simply pulls a string and something gets felt, something gets ripped OPEN. Guitar solos, too.
