I needed a HDMI to RCA connector for a neighbor who's family gave her a Bluray player as a present and she has the standerd Red, White and Yellow connector on her TV. I was skeptical that this would work at all, but gave it a try since I could return it if it did not. Once we plugged it into her TV and her bluray player, she was able to watch Blurays on her old non-digital tv! I was impressed and the quality of the image was excellent and the audio was too.

I recommend this for anyone who wants to use their old TV to be able to watch Blurays.

I bought this handy little device to use Google chromecast on an old tube television in my bedroom. Works as advertised, no problems.

Like many Americans, i still have an old CRT style TV and too cheap to buy a new flatscreen... my CRT is HUGE but doesnt have any HDMI ports and i wanted to use my AppleTV with it. right out of the box it works.

1. hook up necessary cables from the converter to TV

2. hook up HDMI cable from device to converter

3. MAKE SURE YOU SET THE SWITCH TO THE REGION YOU ARE IN!!! IF YOU ARE IN AMERICA/JAPAN/ANYWHERE BUT EUROPE SET IT TO NTSC! IF YOU ARE IN EUROPE USE PAL!

4. use power cable to power the converter. although it may not be needed, it still helps A LOT!

when you switch to the input the converter is on you will get a blue screen. now power on your device. VOILA it works!

it's simple, people. i dont understand how one cannot operate this or not get it to work

I ordered this product and instead received the white one instead. I got this for my Xbox one and I am disappointed that the video is not working at all. The audio is perfect and clear but the video is flashing and not even showing the actual picture. Why you no show video!!!??? (Place a picture of what's happening with my TV)

Don't buy the black one. Dark images, especially gradients, look like an animated .gif from the 1990's. And it requires the additional USB cable for power.
The white one has better image quality and I haven't needed the additional USB cable for power. The HDMI has enough already.
Buy the white one.

Originally I gave this a 1 star review after receiving a unit and then a replacement unit that both converted the video fine but it produced no audio. I tried 3 different sets of audio cables and used my PS4, my Chromecast and my bluray player as inputs but none would pass a sound.

After returning the first unit and I had just printed the return label for the second unit, a thought came to me. The unit comes with a USB cable but no wall outlet. I had grabbed one of my many old phone outlets and since the video worked, I assumed it had good power. But I unplugged the USB from the wall outlet and plugged it into the USB outlet on the PS4, and the picture AND sound came through clear!!! After going through several outlets in my desk drawer I came to the conclusion:

** This unit needs a 2.1A wall outlet. And a good one, not a cheap walmart one.

I had the best results using a Palm and a Motorola 2.1A wall plugs. A couple of other 2.1A plugs would still pass audio and video, but the picture was darker and the audio was much quieter and I had to crank the TV up. One 2.1A plug (a walmart checkout stand $.99 special) either was underpowered or had unclean power and the unit only produced video, no audio.

Best Advice:
------------
1) PLEASE CHECK IF YOU HAVE THE NTSC/PAL SWITCH CORRECT!!! I've read dozens of posts on this item about people complaining about getting just a black rolling static filled screen. That means (most likely) you have that switch on the wrong setting

2) USE A GOOD USB WALL PLUG!!! If you don't get good picture or audio, try swapping out a couple of different wall plugs or go to the store and buy a (good) new one. Not the cheapo $.99 one by the cash register.

I'm still only giving it 4 stars because it needs much better documentation to avoid these issues, as their many returns and their many bad reviews attest to, but the PS4 is working just fine on my old tube 36" basement TV and I don't have to fork over hundreds of dollars for a new LCD TV for a while.

I received the unit I ordered, which is good considering the number of reviews where the buyer apparently did not receive the product for which they placed an order. Connected the DVR to to the converter and then connected the RCA cables from the converter to the TV. Everything seemed to work fine: Had audio and the picture was in full color. Later that day, the color was severely flickering - most of the time it was black and white, but would show up in different amounts (usually making people look like Frankenstein with **very** green skin). This flickering has become more and more common with additional use, to the point where having full color is now rare.

I did some troubleshooting today and have determined the problem *is* the converter. Steps I took to troubleshoot this were:

1. Verify the RCA cables were hooked up correctly to both the converter and the TV. Red to red, white to white, and yellow to yellow. All correct here and problem remains.
2. Changed the HDMI cable. Problem remains.
3. Disconnect the RCA cables from the converter and connect them to our cable-company-provided DVR, which we were using without problem prior to purchasing our TiVO (thus the need for this device). Problem resolved.

Since the problem resolved when the converter was removed from the setup, that leaves the converter as the source of the problem. I am not bothering to attempt to return this device. I view this as a fine example of caveat emptor and have learned my lesson.
