Customer Reviews

Don't expect audiophile quality but it works great.

Since it is powered by a 12V 2A power source, it can be fed by battery pretty easily with minimum know how and some internet research.

You wouldn't want to try to have a house thumping party with an amp like this, but the sound quality is really pretty good.

Nice little amp. I should admit immediately that I am addicted to these small amplifiers. I have many from various manufacturers from all over the world.

These amps have a million uses because of their size. An obvious one would be to hook it to a computer and use some nice bookshelf size speakers for your PC sound as opposed to the junk one usually uses for computer audio. But the uses do not stop there by a long shot.

Because it comes with "ears," it is ready to mount anywhere. Under a kitchen cupboard, on the back of a headboard for bedroom TV sound, I even have one inside my bathroom vanity for shower tunes.

Most people don't understand "watts," because, frankly, manufacturers lie about wattage. They either list only "output watts," a measurement that has to do with electricity, not audio, or have slick terms like "music watts," "real watts," or "listening watts." These mean nothing. "RMS Watts" is the true, scientific measurement of audio wattage. The real RMS watt numbers listed in the description of this item seem low compared to the lies of dishonest sellers. For example, 50 watts RMS in a house or home, at full volume, is LOUD. Too loud to have a conversation over and loud enough to cause hearing damage for prolonged periods. When you see an ad for an amp that has 100 watts of power per channel and is the size of an asprin boittle- it's not 100wx2ch. Sorry... but it just isn't.

Refreshingly, this seller has decided to tell you the truth. This is an 8 watt RMS amp- 4 watts per channel. Guess what? In a normal sized room in a house, that's loud. Turn it all the way up and you'll annoy someone else in your house.

Used this for an Ice Chest Radio project. Hooked it up to two 5.25" car speakers, and it's nice and loud, and surprisingly decent bass. For my needs it worked perfect. Wasn't expecting what I got. Very low power consumption. I'm able to power the speakers for days on a 12v 15AH battery.

My son purchased this for his computer, which is in our living room. Now, we can hear great music all over the house!
Came super fast and the price was great.

I received an updated Kinter MA-170 with the E version PWB) (X000C4O79P mfg 13.08.06) which no longer has left and right channels reversed and is no longer inverting. This was ordered without the Zitrades power supply. In addition it has a new IC output chip (TDA 7266) which is direct coupled to the speakers rather than with capacitors. As a result, with the Treble set a maximum, there is little input to output phase distortion in the Treble region. There is no visible zero crossing error. There is still low frequency amplitude distortion. The output negative leads to the speakers cannot be shorted, and therefore some care is required if headphones are to be used. I converted my headphones to keep the return leads separate and it worked fine. The TDA 7266 is heat sinked to the side of the external case instead of the bottom (an easy way to recognize the E version), and no longer distorts (bends) the PWB as a result. The action of the tone controls is still pretty much the same as the MA-170D. Setting the treble to minimum and the Bass to slightly above minimum (the Bass control has a switch action at the lowest setting) achieves the best 1kHz square wave indicating minimal phase and amplitude distortion. Advancing the bass control achieves a room equalization resulting in a gradually decreasing amplitude response with frequency through the treble range. The MA-170E has usable frequency response and Bass Action to 4 hZ (Bass at max, Treble at min, volume about ¼), which is remarkable. You will notice the difference (with the appropriate speakers or headphones) when listening to material which is bass heavy such as the Pirates of the Caribbean. This is an improvement over the MA-170D which is capacitor coupled and has response to 17 Hz.Read more ›

Great little amp for the price. Using inside an arcade cabinet. Works fine. Some harmonic distortion when you crank it. Tested it on a few speakers. The light changes colors, that's neat. Advertised wattage seems a bit high for this but it really does work and its small enough to fit my needs. I will buy more for more builds.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the delivered price on this little amp. I bought two of them. They arrived in just a few days. I hooked them up to a pair of JBL L100 speakers and a 12 volt dc power supply and used the output from a CD player for the source. I was AMAZED at the quality of the sound. Naturally you are not going to shake walls with 4 watts RMS but at normal listening volumes it was super! It does not come with a wall power supply. I tested it and at max volume without distortion it drew about 400 Milliamps max. For safety I would suggest using a power supply with a current rating of at least 600 Milliamps. Of course, you can easily operate it from your vehicles 12 volt battery. It does come with a power cord. The strips on the wire indicates the positive lead. I am going to carry one of these in my toolbox just in case I need it. Of course, the 100 watt Peak Music Power rating is a joke. The controls are smooth operating and have some dampening so that you accidentally don't change a setting. Also, kinda nifty, is the volume control is surrounded by a clear round panel that has constantly changing colors behind it. What a DEAL!!!!
