5.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for... October 28, 2010

This adapter is not cheap and, as noted by others, should be included with your new Mac purchase. That said, its a great adapter and does exactly what it is supposed to do. Works great to connect my new Mac to an excellent 24" Samsung monitor.

Note: white noise is displayed on the screen if the Mac falls asleep before the monitor goes to sleep. It disappears after the Mac wakes up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works like it should December 29, 2011

I purchased one of these (used) for my 2011 MBP 13". Received it and to be honest, I couldn't even tell that it had been used (can't beat that, considering I paid 1/3 the cost of a brand new one for one that was used).

It does what it says it'll do, and that's give you a DVI-D port on your MBP (and your MacBook Air and Mac Mini).

Couple of notes here (for those who don't know):

1) This works with the Mini DisplayPort on the Mac. That's what Mac has used since the change from Mini DVI, until the recent iteration of Macs with the new Thunderbolt port. But guess what? The Mini DisplayPort adapters also work with the new Thunderbolt port, so if you have that, you'll still use this adapter.

2) This gives you a DVI-D port. It's NOT a DVI-I or DVI-A. What does this mean for you? It means that it's a true digital signal that CANNOT be changed from DVI to VGA via cheap adapter. It also means that your monitor has to support a full fledged digital signal, and you'll probably need to purchased a DVI-D cable to go along with it, as most digital monitors ship with a DVI-I/A cable instead of a DVI-D cable (yes, they ARE different). If you want to know which cable you have, look at the connector - you'll see a bunch of small pins and one wider pin on one side of the connector. If there are two pins above and two pins below that wider pin, you have a DVI-I/A cable. If there are no pins above and below that wider pin, you have a DVI-D cable.

If you need it, buy a used one! No need to pay more for the same thing!

No problems. I have a 13" Macbook Pro (mid-2009) and a 24" 1080p Gateway monitor on my wall. It just works. No complications or special instructions. That's really all that you need to know, right?

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as expected
It works as expected. I just connected it to my monitor and it works fine. No complains so far. The one I bought looks to be made by Apple, not other companies.
