This is a very nice micro drill set, it has bits that are more than small enough for anything I need to use them for.

I've been needing a set of smaller drill bits to do some work on my metal miniatures (pinning joints) and these are the ones I finally settled on. I am very happy with this set.

I haven't had these very long so I can't say how well they hold up over time, but I figured I'd add some things I noticed.

I'm making pinhole plates for pinhole cameras, so I'm mostly interested in the smallest bits. I also need them to be accurate because a difference of something like 0.001" or 0.01mm is enough to make a difference in image sharpness with precision-drilled pinholes in many cases.

I put the smallest bit in a good solid micrometer outer caliper I have and it read exactly 0.013" as advertised. Note that these tiny ones are TINY. To give you some idea, the thinnest manual sewing needle I could find was wider than 0.02"/0.5mm. The smallest bit (0.013"/0.33mm) in this set is about the diameter of an acupuncture needle except that it has burrs to drill with. To handle these I use some sharp pointed tweezers with a locking collar of the sort that jewelers use to hold gemstones for inspection. I'm pretty good with my hands but it's difficult to dump out the little tube of the thinnest size bits and pick one bit out of it without dumping some of them.

SO NOTE: the metric conversions given for the drill bit sizes appear to be inaccurate or maybe I should just say wrong. 0.013" is actually more like 0.33mm, and my micrometer read 0.013". So it would seem that the accurate numbers listed are the English units, not the metric ones. Therefore refer to the English numbers given and convert them to metric manually if you want to know the real diameters in mm.

It's difficult if not impossible to get the really small bits perfectly centered in the pin vise, though using tweezers helps. I haven't really used a little pin vise like this before so I can't really say if this is typical, at least in this price range, or not.

I ordered this product and a set of mini-bits from another supplier because I thought the bits that would come i this set might not be that great... I could not have been more wrong. The hand drill, and the assorted bits are in great shape and very well packaged. Be sure to unscrew the driver handle and notice two other chucks for even bigger bits! This is a great tool... This kit from hobbytoolsupply.com has everything I need and packaged well... It's a great value and turned out to be much nicer then what I got from the other supplier..

This set was just the thing I needed to help me with my hobby.
I build model rockets that really fly. I needed to drill small holes for nylon screws.
The service and delivery was way above the grade. I'd order from this company always.

I have used a few pin vice chucks in the past (borrowed from friends) and never really felt they were of decent quality (plastic hollow handles, loose chuck, no real solid feel). I use a dremel a lot of times, but the speed tends to melt plastics and sometimes is just too fast. The great thing about this set is the SOLID pin vice chuck, and all the extra bits they send you with it (that also work with my dremel). If you work with miniatures and need a pin vice & drill bits, GET THIS SET, I doubt you will find better. Shipping was super quick and the packaging is great! Cannot say enough good things about this quality product.

I am getting back into the scale modeling hobby and had never heard of a pin vise. But, on the first model I got, it required me to open 8 little holes on the fuselage. I have a 1/4 inch drill, which I used, but this was like killing a fly with a cinder block. It worked, but probably did a little damage, too. And, it was overkill.

This is a little metal tool that holds tiny drill bits and has a rotating end so you can delicately drill small holes by applying downward pressure and turning the body of the tool. Another cool use is to put a sewing needle into the collet (bit holder) and use it to scribe panel lines into the plastic for detail or to apply thin super glue with precision. I'm told you can us it to drill out the tiny barrels of canons on planes, too for more realism.

If you work with small parts, or need precise detail work, this is a good tool. It comes with a lot of bits and two collets (the alternate stores in the body of the tool. All of it is packaged in a reusable, clear cylinder. Nice!

It was exactly what I needed to perform the delicate task at hand. I volunteer at a natural history museum and we are learning to articulate small mammal and bird skeletons. An important task is geting a hole drilled between the various joints in order to insert a very fine SS wire. The size bits available in this set fit our needs perfectly and the pin vise allowed us to start the hole by hand, enabling a perfect alignment. The cost was the most reasonable we could find and the seller shipped the order very promptly and it arrived in perfect condition. We could not have been happier with the entire transaction.

The bits in this set are great but the hand vise chuck is nearly worthless. And yes, I found all 4 collets (two are hidden in the handle). Even when tightened down with the help of two pairs of pliers, the larger bits will slip in the vise when encountering even very small amounts of resistance like drilling through plastic.

I contacted the maufacturer and they didn't have any suggestions to increase friction. It seems as though the bits are harder than the collet material so they readily slip.
