Great Fashions of the ***60s***, August 15, 2008
This review is from: Mini Mod Sixties (Paperback)
I was actually expecting Samantha Bleikorn's book, THE MINI MOD SIXTIES BOOK, to be about the events that shaped the counter-culture into what has become known as the "turbulent 60s." However, the book is really focused on the fashions of the time, with a focus on women's clothes and style, particularly the mini-skirt. She does explain some of the events that rocked the world like Vietnam, MLK & the two Kennedy assassinations, along with the sexual revolution but always with a slant towards how that impacted clothing trends. I actually enjoyed the book, even though it wasn't quite what I was looking for. There are plenty of photographs throughout and Bleikorn has done her homework about the movers and shakers that challenged the stringent dress code of the Paris fashion houses, and goes into detail about artists, celebrities, stores and designers that literally created a new wave in how we dress. And of course, she discusses the youth-quake that was happening not only in America, but also in the UK and France, which was ushered in by the Beatles. Most of the emphasis is on women's clothing and style but there's a few nods to the guys (sadly few and far between). This book would be great for anyone who's getting into fashion and/or costume design or enjoys looking at retro clothes and learning a few tidbits about the hot spots of "swinging London." However if you're looking for a more in-depth look at the hippie/counter culture/60s book, I suggest Hippie and The Haight-Ashbury: A History both are pretty good at giving you a glimpse into that time period.

Miniskirt Lovers Forever!, February 16, 2011
This review is from: Mini Mod Sixties (Paperback)
If the sight of a fit woman displaying her beautiful legs in a mini-skirt or mini-dress makes you simultaneously weak in the knees and invigorated everywhere else, this photo book is for you! I went back to college for my sophomore year in 1967; there to be greeted by the most heavenly display of beautiful women wearing the most amazing outfits; mini-skirts, mini-dresses and hot pants. I had never before experienced such daily pleasure and amazement. and still do to this day! Accompanied by hundreds of photos, this book gives you the history and growth of one of the most exciting creations ever to bless our species, the mini! From the famous to the anonymous, this is the book all mini-skirted leg lovers have been searching for. I was fascinated and powerfully stimulated by each chapter and on every page! No true leg lover should be without this fascinating book. If you know of any others like it, please send me a message.

Entertaining and informative!, January 7, 2009
This review is from: Mini Mod Sixties (Paperback)
I bought the Mod Sixties book for my stepdaughter who is interested in fashion and hopes to go to college for fashion magazine editing. She enjoyed making the connection of the trends of the sixties to today's fashion trends and plans to keep it in her fashion library. It is colorful and a great read!
