I didn't read the description well enough...this is ONLY 4-inches long, when closed.
Since most of us would walk around with it closed, I quickly realized its barely long enough for one end or the other to stick out past my hand for proper defensive use. Another 1.5-2-inches would have been perfect for an adult sized hand. As it goes, one of my kids will get this one.

I do like that the item is made of metal. Unlike some of the other items with some cheap plastic or thin wood eye-hole...I don't expect my keys to pull off or get lost from the end in which they attach to this staff.

The knife edges aren't sharp (slashing shouldn't be performed anyhow), but it's definitely pointy enough and long enough to thrust with fatal results. For me I wanted a pocket knife for all the times I'm opening letters, boxes, etc. It works fine for that too.

As a kubotan defense stick, this needs to be longer but works great for kids and not too big to put your pocket.
At least one end can stick out enough to use in traditional defensive moves. Item as described and of quality metal.

Better to pack in your luggage if travelling. Even at that, it may be better to get a kubotan keychain without the knife...just in case.

I bought this for a speech I had to give on self defense. It is easy to use, and comfortable to grip. The blade screws in and out perfectly. The key ring could be a little bigger, but only so I can spin it on my finger like the amazingly cool operator that I am.
