I picked up this book while enjoying spending a gift certificate at Williams Sonoma and in all honesty it made me fall more in love with my electric personal pie maker. This expanded all my ideas and made me realize just how much the pie maker can do.

Forget just sweet pies and desserts although of course those are a joy...you can go totally gourmet and serve gourmet side dishes with this cookbook or mini pies for full meals. In fact, any savory pie is a delight with simply tomato soup.

The beauty of this book is that it's made for those who have an electric pie maker rather than forming pies by hand. This matters because it gives you the perfect amount of filling for the pie maker so that the crust touches the top and it doesn't include recipes you can't use in the pie maker such as pies with graham cracker crusts that I found in other pie books, or other things formed by hand. On the other hand, if you don't have a personal pie maker, you could certainly make them all by hand!

some recipe examples:

summer peach pies
fresh strawberry
blackberry ginger
s'more pie
mixed berry pies
maple apple butter
caramel banana
pecan
pumpkin
chocolate cheesecake
dulce de leche cheesecake

...and lots more!

savory pies ( GREAT GOURMET SIDE DISHES AT PARTIES!!) include recipes such as:
ham and cheese mini quiches
scrambled egg and bacon pies
green chile and cheese pies
gruyere and onion
cheesy vegetable
chili pies
salmon and dill
pancetta mushroom
pepperoni calzone
shepard's pies

and much more!

You get the idea...and it will give you many more new ideas!

My hubby got me the Breville Pie Maker for my birthday in October along with three books on mini pies. Two of which I returned and purchased this book instead. This cookbook is very helpful when using the pie maker. The crust information is particularly helpful. Also, reading customer comments on line on trials of pie's they have attempted in the pie maker really helps. I love my pie maker so much and super glad I got the cookbook to make pie makin' easier.

you can buy it from the Williams-Sonoma website for $19.95. It's a W-S exclusive product. Don't be taken-in by the currently overpriced used ones for sale here.

So I love that it's made JUST for the mini pie maker. That is the best part. However, some of the pie recipes aren't that great. They're simple, which is why I tried them. But they don't really taste that great. But they're tweakable, and the benefits are that you can work from these recipes to ensure you're not making too much pie filling, and it's helpful to see which pies should have a puff pastry top or a normal pie shell top. I haven't tried the savory pies--I'm not a savory pie person.

In a moment of insanity I bought a Breville pie maker. I had visions of delicious mini pies to feast on. In reality, not so much. The book is not the problem…it is the electric pie maker. It is way smaller than I expected and you have to cram the dough in which leaves little room for filing…1/3 cup (not much), but proportion of dough to filing is off, much too much dough. So if you enjoy eating dough, great! I would use this book if I decided I want to make small pies in my oven and that would require using a muffin pan or buying larger mini pie pans. At this point I am so over the whole thing I doubt I will ever do this. Although mini chicken pot pies in Fall does sound good.

Have tried several of the recipes and ready to try more as more berries come into season. :) Gives you basics that you can embellish or personalize. Tasty, warm, and fun for the family.
