4.0 out of 5 stars Used as intended, they work great!
I love them. I got the tiny fishing rods at [...] for $18.
I got a fly reel and a spinning reel...both work quite well though it does take some time to reel in all that line with the fly reel. It is fun though and a tiny fish feels like a whale. I am very glad I got them. I wouldn't go salmon fishing with them but just like anything, used as intended they work...

2.0 out of 5 stars Horrible
I can't believe I even bought this thing. It is small but the reel isn't- so it serves no purpose having the pole small- my son is going to lose the reel. It is flimsy and cheap.

Cool idea. I got one shipped straight from from China. It doesn't cast only works like a winch. you can reel it and unreel it but not cast due to the fact that it is "fixed" to the gears and not free spinning. Would make a great novelty gift since it does look like a big pen. But, IMO, not worth $5

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money and Time, March 19, 2010

This rod is worthless junk. A stick and string will get you better results without one tenth of the aggravation. A complete waste of money, unless you need to give a novelty gift to someone you really don't like.

Rod snapped in half the first time I used it. Save your money and buy a slightly larger telescoping rod.

I purchased this pole for my son and he really likes it. Make sure that you are catching small fish so the pole won't break. [...]

4.0 out of 5 stars Used as intended, they work great!, August 2, 2011

I love them. I got the tiny fishing rods at [...] for $18.
I got a fly reel and a spinning reel...both work quite well though it does take some time to reel in all that line with the fly reel. It is fun though and a tiny fish feels like a whale. I am very glad I got them. I wouldn't go salmon fishing with them but just like anything, used as intended they work quite well. There is another version of this product but I don't recommend it. Very over priced and I question the quality. They are cheap little things and I spent $20 at [...] expecting the money to be a waste, but two adults used these rod/reels to fish for less than 3 pound trout for days. They should be used as a "better than nothing" rod, don't take them fishing expecting to get a 10 pound Bass...I am not sure what would happen but I doubt it will end well. I bought them for the size, as with anything compact it is not as good as the original, but for my case it wasn't worth taking a regular or even compact rod to catch tiny little trout. We caught one fish that was maybe 18 inches but most were less than 12 inches. The rod never felt like it was going to break or anything. The spinning reel worked VERY well, the fly reel is so tiny that you do have to turn it very fast to reel in the line...which means the fish may get off, but if you're just fishing for fun then it isn't a big deal. We also used the bungee bobber at [...]and it worked out, but keep in mine this is fly fishing for "fun" so keep your expectations low. Again, I bought the rods knowing that the was no way I could bring a larger one so my though was this is better than nothing so if you have a situation where your options are to bring no rod or use this one, this will be VERY VERY WORTH IT. We had 2 full days of fun because of these rods with out the small rod we wouldn't have been able to fish at all. I have looked in to many other versions and I recommend the ones at another website store.

2.0 out of 5 stars humm ok small but well could be better, February 4, 2011

as it states it is amazingly small..myself ive modded a reel to work with it..like other reviews said this works like a wench for the flipping technique..
not for me ..i bought this for a survuval kit..this is going to sit in the closet until massive diasaster happens..this is life line for catching fish to eat..
like i said the reel sucks for casting ..it cant be done normally you have to let the line out and try to flip it..

so grind your reels down if they can fit and it will work perfect for casting..

this has nothing to do with the seller in fact i got mine 2 days after by mail..which is amazing..best shipper i ever had on amazon..

if you want a small fishing rod like this look for the new series they all work fine and are much better quality and will cast normally..

3.0 out of 5 stars pen fishing pole, March 15, 2010

this fishing pole is really neat.the reel is really well made and the the eye's on the pole are nylon coated.the only complaint i have is how the reel attach's to the pole.if they would have put as much thought into it as they did the reel and pole it would be fantastic, but as it is i have to tighten it up constantly.this is the only place that the material they used could have been better, other than that it is a superb product and really catch's fish.
