5.0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price!!!
Works like a charm for my old EIDE drives that still have useful life and are mobile as well as offer both Firewire and USB connectors. This is a boon to working with editing video.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cool Lights, Everything Else, Not So Cool
The plastic housing looked cool in the picture. In real life, it looks cheap.
The documentation that came with the unit was poor at best.
There was no hard drive jumper configuration information at all. I had to research that issue on the internet for myself.
On a positive note, assembly was a breeze. That is the only positive I statement that I can make...

The plastic housing looked cool in the picture. In real life, it looks cheap.
The documentation that came with the unit was poor at best.
There was no hard drive jumper configuration information at all. I had to research that issue on the internet for myself.
On a positive note, assembly was a breeze. That is the only positive I statement that I can make about this ULTRA unit.
Lastly, the cooling fan became very noisy after only a couple of days of use.
I don't normally write reviews, but if I can save any of you out there from wasting your money, my time was well spent.
My plan now is to trash this housing and go with an aluminum "heatsink" type housing with no fan

1.0 out of 5 stars Very poor quality for the price, July 30, 2006
This review is from: Mini Port. Hard Drive Enclosure w Fan USB ULT31309 (Personal Computers)
I purchased 2 of these units for backup and archival purposes. However, within a few weeks both were so noisy that I had to turn them off. While I like the idea of a fan to keep the drive cool, I trashed both of them and decided on an aluminum enclosure.

You can purchase a much higher quality drive enclosure for much less. The plastic is cheap and flimsy, the fan is extremely loud, and the overall quality screams cheap.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is garbage., November 13, 2006
This review is from: Mini Port. Hard Drive Enclosure w Fan USB ULT31309 (Personal Computers)
The fan noise is NOT a small concern. It's extremely loud. Even more alarming, first one then the other firewire ports have failed on me. At this point it's still somewhat usable, but if the usb port fails too, then the entire unit will be completely useless. Don't buy it!

I bought this HDD enclosure because of the fan. The enclosure is not durable, if you were to drop it with a HDD in it, it will break. The whole enclosure is glued together and could come apart if you keep opening it. Overall it works with my HDD and the fan isn't that loud. I give it 3 stars for operating after I installed it and the fan thats included.

Doesn't have the Oxford chipset that supports firewire booting for Mac. Cheap casing, fan makes lot of noise. Otherwise works decently as powered external storage.

5.0 out of 5 stars External HDD enclosure, January 11, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mini Port. Hard Drive Enclosure w Fan USB ULT31309 (Personal Computers)
This has got to be one of the best add-ons I have ever bought for my PC!
I recently did some extensive up-grading which involved changing my broken C: drive and replacing it with my D: drive, then up-grading my D: drive with a larger capacity hard drive.
I was able to put 3 different brand HDD's into this unit and copy, erase & and back-up data as much as I wanted!
This External HD enclosure is silent, small, simple to use, looks good and does not heat up.
The fan is silent.
I'll probably end up buying more of these units so that my family can all have HD back-ups for their PC's.
It makes life much easier when changing computers!
Highly recommended!

1.0 out of 5 stars RUN AWAY!, May 18, 2007

This review is from: Mini Port. Hard Drive Enclosure w Fan USB ULT31309 (Personal Computers)
I bought this and a Seagate 250 HD. After about 9 months of me being lulled into a false sense of security (read this is NOT making backups!) the drive started the click of death. I was furious! I thought it was the drive. It made sense...the drive clicked so it must be that. After almost shelling out $1K I thought I would try the drive in another computer. The drive came up and had all of my data. I can only think that the power supply to the ULTRA diminished enough in voltage to cause the HD head not to be able to un-park or move correctly.
As a precaution I will take advantage of the Seagate 5 year warranty and put the replacement drive in a different case.

BTW: this drive was NOISEY!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Case and Good price!, March 3, 2006
This review is from: Mini Port. Hard Drive Enclosure w Fan USB ULT31309 (Personal Computers)
It is my first review. But I have to say sth. It is such a good product that it matchs with my hard drive and makes it work prefectly. Also it is fancy and beautiful and light. Before buying this one, I bought two, one from buy.com and one from cirtuicity. But unfortunately, both of them don't work. The store is also OK. On time shipping and not such expensive.
