Book Description

Minimalist Cooking 2 - 27 More Practical Recipes is the follow up book to Minimalist Cooking - 27 Practical Recipes. In this book the emphasis is very much on one pot meals, pies and sweet and savory muffins. As with the first book there is a comprehensive introductory section dealing with equipment techniques and ingredients.

The book is professionally illustrated with every recipe accompanied by at least one photograph taken at the time the recipe was tested. All photographs were taken by Meg's photographer husband, Steve Johnson.

As with the first book this edition is aimed at the person who is starting out on their cooking journey but who wants to learn how to do more than set a microwave and operate a tin opener.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Phenomenal Followup to the Original! December 17, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm a huge fan of Meg's recipes, having purchased her first cookbook directly from [...] a long time ago. Meg specializes in extremely convenient meals that can be made in one pot and very little time. We have a lot of kids so schedules are tight at best, and these recipes have drastically cut down on time expended on cooking. If I had to pick a favorite recipe, it would be the yellow rice lentil curry, but there are tons of soups and stews in this book that will keep your family happy for a long time. I plan on rotating between several of them for a month or two until I have them down pat (they are really well explained, so it won't take long) and then switch over to some others and repeat the process.

I honestly think that this book is worth quite a bit more than the asking price, especially considering how much time it has saved me. I'm definitely a fan for life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear and of High Quality February 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I like this a lot. There is a good bit of useful information at the beginning, particularly for anyone relatively new to cooking. The information about canned tomatoes is something I had not consciously noted, but as soon as I read it, I realized that she was absolutely right. This will be a very helpful tip, I think.

The author's explanations are clear and understandable, and the recipes sound absolutely delicious.

I look through a lot of recipes and cookbooks, but I did find some new tips and suggestions here. I only wish I had the ingredients for the ratatouille on hand, because it sounds luscious and very do-able for me. I also like the fact that these are not slow cooker recipes - my crockpot comes in very handy, but I find there is a difference in a soup or stew prepared on the stovetop or in the oven versus the crock.

The technical quality is excellent, as far as I am concerned. I read this on Kindle for PC rather than my regular Kindle, as I do for most recipe books. It is obvious care has been taken to make the text look nice. I didn't note any errors, typographical or otherwise. The pictures are lovely.

More About the Author

Meg grew up an only child on a small Indiana farm, where Nancy Drew became her best friend and she eventually developed a crush on Agent 007. Her reading expanded sufficiently to achieve a Master of Arts degree, but her imagination continues to reside (while knitting and gardening) in various mysterious English, American, and Canadian villages, with occasional forays to more exotic times and locales.

In a different genre, she was an artist and owned a gallery with her English husband, photographer and writer Steve Johnson. Since then she has written a blog, The Minimalist Woman, and its associated lifestyle and cook books, as well as a tiny collection of very short stories.

An Uncollected Death is the first book of a series. Meg is currently creating more perils to deflect and clues to unearth for her new friend, Charlotte Anthony.
