A Fine Introduction,
By
This review is from: Minimalist (Audio CD)
Though each of these composers deserves further study and listening (Reich and Glass have been particularly prolific), if you're looking for a one-stop introduction to minimalism as a concept, this CD fills the bill admirably. The performances (by the London Chamber Orchestra) are crisp and well-produced. The selections are judicious, but when you think of what they might otherwise have chosen, you might wonder why the Heath was included-- it's not so "minimalist" to my ears. So, if you're not familiar with these composers, or wish a taste of an influential genre over the last forty years, this is a good place to start.
