Jesse Jacobs has written a series of books on the Minimalist manner of living and in this very readable short book he anchors those principles succinctly. `Read on to find out how you will make your life enviable once you discover where the sweet spot in finding happiness lies; it all boils down to having less.'

Following those ideas presented by many (detaching from stuff, de-clutter you mind) he presents the 21 day minimalist recipe: Detachment (Organize your things: keep, throw, give), go on a vacation, adopt the 100 Item rule (`With this approach, you set a target on how many items you want to stock in your house and discard the rest...we only need food, shelter and clothing to survive. This means we should live comfortably with just 100 items in our house'), living on the bare minimum, De-Clutter (get rid of all clutter in your house), Living with less - Reviewing Performance and Streamlining the Timeline, Financial Management as a Minimalist, Spend 50% of Your Income on Necessities, Spend 20% on Financial Obligations, Allocate 30% of your Income to your Personal Choices. He ends his suggestions with the statement `start the 21-day guide and start de-cluttering for a more satisfying and meaningful life.'

I have heard about minimalist lifestyle ideals before and got very curious about it. After reading the book I can tell the author knows the topic well. The book is very short though, so I would classify this book as an introduction rather than a definite guide, but as less is more, this book might just be enough information for you as it was for me. It was a pleasant read and very interesting. I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to simplify their lives. You will be surprised at how much you gain when you let go.

I am delighted to be the very first reviewer of this fine book. Although I am not a minimalist, I think the ideas expressed are excellent as well as practical. The author asks us to confront a stark reality: Why do we have ALL THAT STUFF in our house? Especially since we never use it. This book provides guidance so that in 21 days, you can clear-out the junk, simplify your life, and begin focusing on important parts of life, not THINGS.

In practical terms, try to get your possessions in your house down to 100. The method is, "Keep, throw away or Give." I think most readers will find this tough--our family would definitely struggle with that. I'm sure we have 100 times that many just in my wife's closet. But the idea is good. Stop spending your time getting stressed out by a bunch of unneeded things! For instance, do you really need to keep all those photos that you never look at? Why not take digital copies and clear them out?

Try to organize your life to eliminate all the fluff that you don't really use. How 'bout that spare bedroom that you never use? And the gym membership? (Wait, this is hitting too close to home!) Do you really use 20 pairs of shoes? These things are all examples of what the author calls, "Worldly Noise." Why not lose the noise and start spending time on relationships? It should be obvious that happiness is not found in the greed of acquiring more and more possessions.

As you simplify your life, you can turn your attention to budgeting. Use the "50/20/30" rule. I admit I had never heard of such a rule. Is it a tax loophole, or a savings plan like a 401-k plan? No, it's a recommended percentage to spend on Necessities/financial obligations/personal choices. Stop using those credit cards and raking up more debt!

As a person who is seeking to retire early by using my money to buy more assets and less junk I found this book very useful.

This contains lots of useful advice to help you stay out of debt and live a simpler lifestyle.

This was an interesting book that was simple, concise and had a good premise. The author is trying to accomplish something good by getting people to live with less. It's a powerful lesson and offers some good insight about how to achieve this minimalist lifestyle.

One of the ideas is to pick 100 items throughout the house that you will keep and get rid of everything else. This might be tough for a lot of people, but also extremely liberating to realize that you can get by with less than you think.

America is stuck in an endless cycle of wanting more, garages filled with junk instead of vehicles, storage units and packed closets prove how much we buy and hold onto. The book offers a good suggestion to go on vacation and take only the essentials. You'll realize that you can get by with very little if you absolutely have to.

The book was a little short for my liking, but it offers some good advice about how living with less allows for more happiness.

I'm not good at writing less than a good review. I will just say unless you are so extremely overwhelmed that you have no idea where to begin or even what decluttering means, you may get something from this book. Other than that, to me it's seems as if it's just a bunch info thrown together in a book format. I mean in one chapter he says if work is causing you to be mentally cluttered and drained then quit. the author says, if you are minimizing you won't need a job that requires so much time and effort. Then in another chapter he says - well I'm not telling you to quit your job. Are you or arent you? Like I said, it just seems to be basic general info thrown together. There really is. O 21 day plan per se, just 3 chunks of one week at a time with some helpful hints. I have it two stars because I did get one good piece of info and it was about finances and his 50/20/30 rule on how to spend money.
