Okay, I am 32 years old. But, I always felt cheated out of learning Latin in school, and I want to expose my daughter to the structure and sounds of Latin early, so I bought this delightful beginner's course. The textbook shows examples of conversation in Latin through cartoon drawings of Roman citizens living in Great Britain almost 2000 years ago. Minimus, a little brown mouse, is our tour guide through lessons in Roman culture and history, as well as our instructor in the finer points of Latin.

There is a light touch throughout the course, befitting one designed for 7-10 year olds, but much appreciated by this older learner, too. The accompanying CD is a must, though, as there is no handy pronunciation guide with the book. Listening to the CD is great, and I have played it while driving around town on errands. If you've read through the text, you can follow the CD even without following the text at the same time -- and how fun to hear a "dead" language come alive!

I used this with my 2 boys when they were in 3rd and 4th grades, We purchased the CD but did not purchase the teachers manual. I think that we were very successful finishing the book in a timely manner. We worked on 1 lesson per week in one sitting and the boys studied their work 2-3 x per week by listening to the CD while looking over the book. One does not need to have any prior knowledge in Latin to direct this course.

This is a great little CD, it really helped my eight year old daughter learn how to speak faster and apply what she is learning in lessons to actual conversations. I highly recommend this CD as a companion to the book, which is also wonderful.

This is a great addition to the text book. The animal voices are about the most adorable thing I've ever heard. The voice actors also have British accents and I am one of those Americans who find that charming. I would not recommend the series without purchasing the cd because it really helps one with the pronunciation.

The CD will be really helpful when I teach Minimus next year to my 3rd grader. I only wish that in addition to the conversational speed that it had a second track that went a bit slower.

Our family is a homeschooling family who have attempted to try to learn Latin by way of The Well-Trained Mind: A Guide to Classical Education at Home, Revised and Updated Edition. The problem we have is we lack any Latin background/training and had to guess how to pronounce the great stories in the book by Barbara Bell, Minimus Pupil's Book: Starting out in Latin. The audio CD has come along just in time for my second student, who happens to also love books on tape. It is true that we have faith in the publishers to have pronounced the words correctly. Also, there are times when it is hard to hear the group pronunciation. Yet, we have enjoyed this CD as an introduction to Latin, and will invest in Secundus to hear the rest of the story. Thanks to Bell and her publishers for this CD.
