simply wicked,

Disappointed by family life, particularly her relationship with her mother, Mini rebels and becomes a person without remorse. She becomes a prostitute, in fact her stepfather is her second client. They start an affair and eventually team up to drive her mother insane, it works too well, and soon are investigated by a detective. Mini's First Time has no moral conscience so its definitely not for everyone, but for those who love imperfect characters and like femme fatales then this movie might be for you.

Just ok,
This review is from: Mini's First Time (DVD)
Mini's character was definitely a sociopath, and I found myself disgusted by her at times. There were a few things about the movie that didn't make sense to me, such as why they were planning on pursuing a "relationship" instead of just leaving it at a casual fling. So because they want a relationship, they come up with ways to get rid of her mother. The whole thing could have been avoided if they had just understood the fact that it was just a little affair and she was eventually going to move out and move on. Going through all the trouble of drugging her mother seemed unrealistic to me. I also didn't understand why when they found her they didn't just leave her to overdose and then say she was a pill user. Instead they decide to make it look like a suicide by putting her in the car, which ends up incriminating them. The whole time I was watching the movie I kept thinking "You guys are so stupid! Don't do that!"

We had Tuesday Weld in "Pretty Poison", Kathleen Turner in "Body Heat", Linda Fiorentino in "The Last Seduction", and the almost too cool Nikki Reed in "Mini's First Time." Alec Baldwin and Jeff Goldblum, as usual, are convincing players, as is the doomed mom of Mini, Carrie-Anne Moss. For fans of the "femme fatale" genre,(and Nikki Reed followers), this is a nice dvd to have in the collection!

A bit predictable and lacks certain payoffs,
By Joe McCool (California, USA) - See all my reviews

An enjoyable film that has a fantastic start and premise. While the supporting cast gave solid to good performances, the plot is a bit predictable. There is no real twist as a payoff at the end either, everything was pretty much laid out a mile away. It would have been more fun it they put in some real twists. Some of the initial interactions between Martin (Alec Baldwin) and Mini (Nikki Reed) almost reminded me of the interactions between Michael Caine and Michelle Johnson in "Blame it on Rio" - a middle-aged man feeling torn by his guilt and love (or lust?) for having a forbidden affair with a much younger woman. However, the film soon changed tone and degenerated into a predictably flat cat and mouse game with an uninspired detective played by Luke Wilson (who coincidentally gave a very flat performance).
There are enough good performances peppered throughout the film, but not enough to carry it all the way. Carrie Ann Moss gave a fantastic performance as a convincing one note crazy drunk mother while Jeff Goldblum basically played himself, which is not necessarily a bad performance either as you can tell he enjoyed himself. Baldwin gave convincing performance as the torn rich middle-aged stepfather, who was unwillingly being turned into a partner-in-crime because of his guilt and love for his stepdaughter. Mini was almost fun to watch as she schemes and manipulates everybody around her but it was a bit too easy to be believed. Reed turned in a solid performance and you cannot get your eyes off her. The film tries a bit too hard to make Mini an over-the-top sex kitten and femme fatale, but the fact that Reed was underage when this film was shot makes that rather unconvincing. It would have been nice to actually see some of Mini's bedroom antics to complete her persona. Instead we just got hints and teases for a film that takes on some very adult relationship themes with little payoff. Overall, an enjoyable first time effort for writer-director Nick Guthe that was too tame and complacent for its topic, content and story. Good for rent.

Double Indemnity+Thirteen=Mini's First Time,
By
This review is from: Mini's First Time (DVD)
"Mini's First Time" was in theatres for about ten minutes before quietly sneaking onto DVD. I had heard of the movie long before it slipped into theatres and didn't know it had been released on DVD until a couple weeks later. When I first heard the title, I thought it was a shameless way of getting people to see it. The title actually makes a lot of sense, so I'm going to tell you right now that movie has no nudity in it. It stars Nikki Reed, who co-starred in and co-wrote Thirteen. That movie scored Holly Hunter an Oscar nomination, jumpstarted Evan Rachel Wood's career, but Reed has just kind of chilled in the background; Appearing in movies like Lords of Dogtown and American Gun recently. The role she's playing here can be compared to the Barbara Stanwyck character in "Double Indemnity" and the Kathleen Turner character in "Body Heat." In fact, it could also be compared to Reed's own character from "Thirteen." In the end, it's like one big combination of them all. Reed plays Mini, the daughter of Diane (Carrie-Anne Moss, 'Memento') a Hollywood golddigger and wannabe actress who never made it after she was impregnated by a producer. Mini is in high school (but is apparently 18, since she's on the verge of graduating and smokes in front of cops and things like that) and obsessed with doing things for the first time. Sex, blackmail, murder, whatever. Her mother is married to a man named Martin (Alec Baldwin), who is unhappy with his marriage. He's a public relations guy, which Mini finds ironic since he's never in public with her mother and she doesn't remember the last time they had relations. After getting a (temporary) job as an escort girl, she finds herself in a room with Martin. Suddenly, they begin having an affair but realize that they need to get Mini's mother out of the picture. That's easier said than done. Mini suggests murder, but that's too risky; So, Mini begins stealing pills from school and putting them in her mothers drinks, hoping that they can eventually get someone to put her mother away. When her mother attempts to commit suicide by taking too many sleeping pills (although it doesn't kill her, but merely knocks her unconscious), Mini and Martin decide to put her inside her car and have her killed from toxic fumes. It seems logical. She takes the pills, so she'll be asleep when she dies. This should work out perfect, if not for a suspicious detective (Luke Wilson) and a nosy TV show-producer neighbor (Jeff Goldblum). The movie isn't your typical dumb teenager movie though. In fact, this movie will probably appeal more to adults than to kids. As I said though, it's kind of like Thirteen+Double Indemnity=Mini's First Time. It's well written, funny, and all the performances are believable. Nikki Reed plays a pretty good femme fatale. It is predictable, but it's entertaining enough to make you forget that. Alec Baldwin is also very good as the man who finds himself so controlled by this woman (girl) that he'll do anything for her. It, at least, seems believable most of the time. I'm giving it 5 stars, because I liked it a lot. It's actually more suited for four stars and most people will agree with that; but it's a movie that is actually worth checking out.

Another stupid man falls victim,
This review is from: Mini's First Time (DVD)
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! The only reason that I didn't rate it a five is because the ending was a little too predictable. However, I always enjoy seeing a beautiful, relentless, intelligent woman whose skilled in the deception of man. This movie just reiterates the fact that men lose their whole entire focus and common sense when consumed by the power of lust and the beauty of flesh. Very well done!

Mini's First Time is a fun film to watch because the adorable and fine Nikki Reed is amazing in pretty much everything she stars in.
Forget every bad thing you might of heard about this film, it's totally not true. But what to expect is a smart little film that makes being bad look very good. lol
